Default Is it ok to go from a 50cc to a 250 or 400cc atv

I want to buy my son a new atv he know how to ride i am considering a raptor 250, ltz 400 but i saw a ds450 for cheap. What should i get him

Welcome to the forums.

First I would have to ask how big he is. Then how well did he handle a 50cc, smaller quad. Can he properly reach all the controls on a full size? Next, can he shift. It's trick learning this, but it's not impossible. I would not recommend putting him on that ds450 at all. Not good going from a passive automatic to a racing 5 speed.

The 250, imo, would be the better choice. Provided his skills are good enough and he is the proper size for the machine.

Lastly, where would the riding take place? There are some states and parks that are pretty strict on the age/size of quad they can be riding.
