Es foreman shifting problem

Es foreman shifting problem
Hello all
I have a 2000 es foreman that has a shift problem
I can strat the engine and try to shift it and nothing happens
turn off engine and turn on ign. Only and I can shift it then I restart engine and it will shift for a while
had battery checked and it checked out good
it has never done this before
anybody have any ideals about what's going On?
