I bought a 2001 polaris sportsman 500 off craigslist with no title or registration. . I figured out 15 of 17 vin numbers just missing the last two. I ran 87 for the last two and came up a valid vin.. now if I try to register it for that vin and comes up someone else's will I get it taken from? I also know the guys (first and now last) name who the lady bought it off of to begin with. Also have his number but wont answer any calls .. so would his name help the dmv or police ? Would that help me at all?

 

I would check with dmv and see if they can help. It may be more up to if the person you're talking with is in a good mood or not. Of course, this will also depend on if it was purchased in your state or not too.

 

The vin should also be stamped on the frame some ware along with the vin tag..
