ok had a good convo with one of my best friends who happens to work at polaris and he was asking me about the arctic cat side by side he told me that polaris received alot of info on them and they had a bunch of meetings and stuff and are all worried cause apparently it is a pretty sweet ride like ranks up there with the rhino which everyone knows leaves the ranger in the dust so does anyone have any info on them??????? kinda curious am kicking around the idea for it being my next machine [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Polaris has a lot to be worried about. - not - they have the army contracts...lol

I participated in a design review and feedback panel for a "unnamed" manufacturer (read as non-disclosure agreement) where we reviewed the proposed side-by side ATV design.

1) Its going to be a tough road to get approved as an ATV to use ATV trails as most states specificaly require an ATV driver to use a handlebar for steering and to be seated astride a seat such as used on a motorycycle. This can change but it takes a legislative year to get approval. The two-rider ATV's (TRV and bombers) were a good example.

2) There is a issue with width. At 48inches wide (Standard ATV maximum) the side-rider ATV's are almost to narrow and tippy. Again, another definition problem with many legislatures. Over 48 inches and many existing public trails were not designed for that.

3) We are pushing "dune buggy" replicas here. And as most people know who were around for that erra the dune buggy was a death trap on the road. There will be strong opposition because these ATV's appear to be even more road worthy then what we have now. Keeping them off the streets will be a problem.

4) Im all for it! Althought the existing AC TRV's are a great way to share the off-road fun safely. We bought 2 just because they were so much fun so now we can invite other couples to try it out. Beats going bowling....
