Rhino 660 4x4 or Ranger 6x6
#1
Hello All,
I'm new to this forum, and from what I've read there is alot of info out there. I currently own an 02 Griz 660 that I'd run aginst anything out there. I live in Alaska and ride in some very unforgiving terrain. I'm looking to sell my Griz and step into a Rhino or a Ranger 6x6. I just test drove a 6x6 yesterday and was imprest, even drove it on 15"of semi hard snow and only sank down 2-3inches. The 6 tires was nice less weight per sq inch. But don't like the 60" width. I like to trail ride and the 54" width of the Rhino. They both have there ups and downs. My wife likes the Ranger for the 3 seats and the Rhino only has two, but I did read somewhere that I can't find someone has a Rhino and he build a seat and a roll cage in the bed for his kids. I'd like to see his rig.
Well if anyone can help me, let me know.
Chris

Welcome to the forums....There are 7 Rhinos on my street and on of the guys is building a back seat for his as we speak...As soon as it's done,I'll get some pics and post a couple....I thought I heard him mention something about a jeep seat...but I'm not 100% sure.I have yet to ride the Ranger but I'm sure loving the power of the Rhino...plus the fact that I'm a 660 nut and they make some good aftermarket hop up kits for it.Just went duning in one last week and had a ball....could not get that thing stuck.

BUY THE RHINO, RHINO, RHINO!!!
Did I say Rhino?
Yes! I have tested both on the trails and in my opinion the Rhino was far superior!(My opinon!)
Again it depends what you are using it for. The Ranger is huge and stable and can carry a lot of cargo.
But however feels lacking in power probably due to the weight disadvantage. Manuvering in tight trails can be a challenge too.
The Rhino too feels stable and with it's smaller size and bigger power it is much more responsive to the right foot!
The extra set of axles, etc, on the Ranger made me think that there is more to go wrong.(more to break) Again that was my observation it could turn out to be bomb proof!!
Riding the trails the Rhino behaved like a utility quad with a stable predictable ride.
The Ranger too performed well but you noticed the power difference. Where the Ranger started to get scary was when it got slippy.
With the duall rear wheels the tires seemed to float a bit instead of biting into the mud and gripping, the control difference is significant.
The dual rear will avoid sinking in the snow as you mentioned, so that is a consideration.
It all boils down to what you want it for!
If all you need to do is haul a lot of cargo arround and never neet to put it on a pickup then go to the Ranger. Nothing compares to the Ranger for cargo hauling ability!
If you are going to do a fair bit of trail riding over vairied terrain and don't require such a large format go with the Rhino, it is practicle and a lot of fun!!

you guys love your rhino's, It was a hard choice but I chose the 500 4x4 ranger(700 efi seemed too jumpy) 1. seating 2. finish 3. it rides great, it has the good rear end, the 6x6 doesn't, but really the polaris dealership was alot better than my local yam- honda guys, that helped out. I am thinking about getting a second one , and really thinking about the rhino again, but the first thing I would get would be a cover for the radiator, the rhino has - 0- protection from the factory. ihave not rode a rhino, but it cant ride that much better than a ranger they are too close in design? the seats are more comfy, and the steering wheel angle seem better, but they all need a nicer steering wheel, well hope that helps, p.s dont jump all over the frog, rhino guys........Froggy

The Rhino will get to speed faster, HOWEVER Lets consider a few things
1. The Ranger comes with CV joints equivalent to those on most small cars, Only Gross abuse will harm them.
2. The Ranger comes with a DANA.. yes thats right DANA electronic locking rear differential. The Dana has earned an impeccable reputation in the SERIOUS off-road community with decades of service.
3. The Ranger comes with a 2 inch reciever, STANDARD.
4. The Ranger seats 3 (sometimes 4) in the front.. I would NOT want to run around with Kids in the back on trails, especially considering how easily a Rhino tips over.
5. The Polaris promotional Video says the new Ranger has 27" fording capability, compared to the bottom of the floorboards with the Rhino.
6. The Ranger seems MUCH more solid, with less rattles and a better Ride.
7. Reverse Gear in a Ranger will Not run 50 MPH, HOWEVER, it is able to actually turn the tires OVER in reverse without smoking the belt in deep mud with oversize tires.
I saw pictures of a Rhino stuck in mud with the STOCK tires , and it wouldnt turn them in reverse, because of the higher gear ratio..The Polaris Ranger, Had no problems in the same spot, and actually pulled out the rhino.)
8. The Ranger has Cupholders.
1000 pound load capacity compared to 400 pounds.
If you just want to fly down the trail and Sportiness is top on your list, the rhino is the way to go, however, the Ranger will run a faster top speed stock (minus the Grizz CDI mod) , is more stable, rides better, hauls more, with less rattles and squeaks and more storage.

yea, I did notice the rear end was larger and looked alot more solid than the rhino, anyone prefer the 700 efi over the 500? it cost alot more, like 2k more... I liked the look of the gorilla lift, wonder about stability, any other lift kits out there for rangers?
