Rhino Racing in UT.
#1
Rhino desert racing in Utah is beginning. The Utah Sportsman Rider Association (USRA) is the sanctioning body for desert and motocross racing in the state, and is made up of several motorcycle clubs. Most of the motorcycle clubs have included an ATV class in the desert races for the last several years, even though there are no ATV racing clubs in the state that hold ATV desert races. The ATVs end up racing on the motorcycle race courses, which are very narrow, rough, and challenging. The Desert Foxes motorcycle club in Salt Lake City has just added a Rhino class to the two races they host each year. The spring race is at Knolls, UT (near the Bonneville salt flats), and the fall race is just south of Wendover, NV. The next race in Wendover will be on October 6th, and will be roughly 90 miles in length, and the Rhino class will have to go the entire distance. This gives people plenty of time to make plans.
I have raced the USRA series on quads for a few years, and on bikes for several years. The courses are totally different from a typical BITD or SCORE desert race because they are much tighter and more technical, with almost no roads. The Rhino class should be a riot, and we wont have a trophy truck breathing down our necks either. I plan on racing the Rhino class in October, so I hope to see a lot of other Rhinos, Prowlers, and a few Razr's there as well.
