I am also looking at a unit here in Québec, Canada. Let me know if you find anything on the unit.

I am hoping to borrow a manual on the unit before I buy it. So far it seems well built and the one I am looking at has a roof, winch, 500cc, electric lift for rear box. I did the internet looking for comments and did not find anything negative yet. I am planning to place my order by mid this week.

Default spartan 500?

I have a companion 500, which is the same as the spartan 500. Different retailer. I use this machine around my yard doing all kinds of stuff. It can plow the snow with ease. Only problem I had was a front oil seal leaking (my fault...hit a rock while plowing gravel) and the power switch on the dash for the bed and winch burnt out. Total downtime was under 3 weeks...that included a weel at the dealer, before he even had a chance to look at it, and the shipping. There was no cost to me as they covered it under warrenty. I built my own hard tonno cover an I am now using conduit to mock up doors...I'll cover them with the thin metal diamond plate. I would buy another.

Thanks for the comments. I will order the Spartan 500 next week. I am ordering with snowplow 62inches working with the back hitch and chains in front. The winch will lift and lower it. Thanks for the heads up on the switches for the winch and bed. I will see if I can get them to upgrade these switches, if not I will do it myself before they burn out. I had a Husqvarna 20hp lawn tractor with a snowblower with a winch on the blower unit, it also burnt the switch. I have since returned the unit because the wheels on the lawn tractor were too small and only two wheels powered, it just did not work. I am looking forward to pushing some snow with the Spartan.
Take some pictures when you have finished your mods and let us know how it goes. How do we post pictures by the way? Anyone know how?

is ok, but 54 inch, the pushbar is the weakest link...it did need to be reinforced.
Check to see if it has a reverse speed limiter switch, if not there is a fix for that. The reverse speed limiter..for me anyway..was a pain, once you pushed forward and down a slight grade in heavy snow, then backing up you cannot go fast and then it starts to sputter....in 4w lock that isn't a problem...but you should never have to plow in anything other than 4wd and h on the gearshift. I do have a service manual for the cfmoto cf188 (cfmoto 500..with 493cc) I also have a parts manual with prices in US dollars from the actual manufacturer in China. I don't do alot of trail riding, but it is a workhorse around my yard. The winch I have is only a 2000Lb, and it will not pull the machine out if it gets stuck (trust me on this one)...I'm buying a 3500lb with a ****** block this spring. I also ran an extension cable from the mp3 player to side of the handbrake cable, easier to plug the tunes in there.

cheers,

John

Hi John, you said, "I do have a service manual for the cfmoto cf188 (cfmoto 500..with 493cc) I also have a parts manual with prices in US dollars from the actual manufacturer in China." I would really like to get my hands on these manuals, I will be receiving my Spartan this thursday. I would be willing to pay for the photocopies, time and shipping if you are interested.
The snow plow I ordered is 62 inches and the bar that runs from the back 2" ball to the front is very strong and splits into a Y and is chained to the front underside. I have not seen it yet but my dealer tells me it will be fine. by the way I also ordered chains on all four wheels with cleats, they should help. Thanks for the heads up on the reverse limiter, will look into it. This is a 2009 so some things were fixed, so my dealer tells me. Time will tell. I am in Québec Canada, -20 today and 10 inches of snow fell. So far this year we have had approx. 4 feet. Thanks again for your reply.

Here are some pictures of my Spartan 500cc by Chrinomex and also my Mammoth 800 by Kazuma. The Kazuma is built like a tank and really has been a great utility vehicle. I keep reading all these reports of problems with this unit and I must admit I must be the lucky one who got the good one. The Spartan is also a beast, not as rugged but certainly great for what I need as a transportation vehicle between our country home and our cottage at the lake. The Mammoth we use to get fire wood for winter, rocks to fill in holes in the trails, etc.
