Was pretty close to buying one at a gun show here a few months back. One of the guys I work with has one and said it was pretty decent. The one I was looking at was just priced too high IMO. About 75 bucks less and I'd be able to tell you first hand how it shoots.

The Ruger SR40 is striker-fired and offers a host of unique features, exceptional reliability, great ergonomics, and excellent accuracy.

My wife owns one, and I have shot it often. Excellent weapon for the price, US made. Have not had any problems with it, and doesn't jam. Like any gun, you have to keep them clean. Mine was about $100 cheaper than my S&W M&P Pro. The Ruger's barrel is 1/2 inch shorter than my S&W, but My S&W has a longer barrel than most. The Ruger has safety's, while my S&W does not. Just remember a handgun is only used until you can get to your long gun. So 25 ft is about max range. At that range, I can put 50 rounds through a hole about the size of a golf ball with it. Why a .40 versus a 9mm? Well, the 9MM is too small as far as I am concerned. However it will not go through a body, and into an innocent, or through a wall. My .40 will. The 9mm will take more shots to take a big man down. A .40 cal will take them off their feet and stop them period. Not quite a 45, but it is a powerful round. I think you will like it. I am buying bulk ammo for it for about $260 for 1000 rounds.
