I've been trying to post an author icon for the past several hours. The picture I'm trying to post is 120 x 90 and well under the 100KB limit (6 KB). Everytime I try to post it it says it's too large. I've even tried posting a 80 x 60 photo (6 KB) and it still is too large. What am I doing wrong?

I am having the same problem. Tried several different sizes 120px X 120px or less all well under 100KB...

What are we missing?

I never had any trouble at all. I just use Paint to resize any picture down to a 120x120 JPEG and save it. My latest one is less than 6 KB.

I'm using Adobe Photoshop. Would that be the reason for it not accepting the icon?

What kind of file is it? It must not be a JPEG or Bitmap.

The file extension is a .jpg. It's the only extension my camera takes.

I finally had my first JPEG that I couldn't use. I got the a fault about TEMPSTRUCT similar to what you got. I used Paint to save it as a PNG and now it works. I guess these are the only two formats you can use. No Bitmap or GIF but you can use them on some other forums.
