Default !!! *Opperation cr250EXR has begun* !!!

Cool huh, well its true I have started, however I dont have any materials, I have just started the mental process (getting my parents to give the ok). Here are the plans:400ex stock frame, stock a-arms,stock swingarm,+4 axle...everything to make a rolling chassis, the whole chassis will be blasted and painted with everything so all I have to do then is just put a motor in. (the hard part) Then if it works ok Ill buy a used complete cr250 and take the engine off and install it into the frame... I will do most everything.

I have a few questions first from you "know-it-alls" Will the cr250 motor fit into the chassis without major frame work, in short will I just have to make new mounts I have a couple welders available to me. And will the cr be powerful enough to pull th ex chassis around,I heard it makes around 40+ HP.

Also anything major you guys know about would help. I will post on the progress more when I get the frame, and it will be under same title.

Later,

Mark

You have a couple problems. First, the CR is a two stroke. You may have problems fitting the pipe, the more you have to "mod" the pipe to fit the more HP you will lose. The pipe has to fit in the chassis with as close to the factory shape as possible. You may even have to try and mod like a 250R pipe to fit your head, it will at least be close to the right shape. Next, the CR has kick starting which kicks to the rear. You will probably have to remove your heel plates and cut some bodywork for it to clear and be able to use it. The mounts should not be that tough if you are going to get a whole bike to start with, at least you will have a pattern to make new ones or maybe you could cut the bike mounts out and weld them in the quad. Why not get a XR650 motor or something larger than the CR?? You wont have problems with the pipe and it will make gobs of power. I think Dirt wheels had a 600EX project bike in an issue a few months ago. Looked sweet! Oh and the title goes with the chassis, no probs there...

Service Honda is supposedly making this very quad...you might want to call them and see about it. It might be cheaper in the long run...

Thanks SpinCycle, The pipe was the one thing I dindnt think about, but I wonder if you could put a 250r pipe on it. I already knew that I would have to do something about the kickstart.

Does anyone think the cr would be powerfull enough, Ill be riding around a gravel pit with two blasters and want it to be a little competitive with them.

Thanks for any info. also will I have a problem with the drive (chain, sprockets) at all.

Later,

Mark

Ok thanks everybody ,Ill make myself clearer though, the reason I want to do this is for a summer project and to get experience in small engines, things like what Ill be doing, because that is what Id like to do in the future, and its an excuse for my parents to let me get another atv. I looked over everything and I can buy some different things for it, without having to pay one big bill that I cant afford all at once.

Is there anyone that can tell me how much power the cr has

It should be as fast as a 250r. Which would be a lot faster than a 400ex. But its not going to be easy. Personally I would try to put in CRF450 motor. Bigger motor, and bigger task though. Becides that I really dont have any advice.
