why aren't atvs street legal? I mean you see golf carts, lawn mowers and mopeds on the road all the time. Mopeds top out at like 40 mph. That wont even run some speed limits in a town. And they won't allow atvs on the raod. I think it is all a load of crap myself. Is there anyone else that agrees with me?

As for quads on the roads...I would love to drive my quad to work..to a nearby trail...ect...but it only makes scence that they are not allowed on the road...not everyone has a 250R, 400EX, Banshee, Prarie 650, Rincon, ect capable of the speeds needed to be traveld at to be safe on the roads...people on 250EX's, Ozarks, Bayou's...stuff like that would not be fast enough and they would always be wound out trying to maintian those speeds. Also quads are built for dirt not tar....around corners going fast on a quad you can run into so scarey situations...quads don't handle liek cars...can you imagine a Polaris Sportsman 700 wipping around a sharp corner at 50mph....IRS....that would be a nightmare....you would be on your lid real quick.....in addiction to that most quads aren't running DOT apporved tires...no directionals, horn, mirrors, mudflaps,.....none of that...plus alot of shaddy riders would get out there trying to rip it up like he does in the dirt and kill himself...quads do not belong on the streets....sorry.

in a neighboring town where i live the cops use the atvs to pull ppl over on the strip. i also think it is not right fer the police to be able to drive them on the street and not the public. after all, they arent above the law!

Ohio State law provides that ATV's can be driven on the berm of State highways ( if can be done so safely)
It also provides that the local law determine if ATV's are allowed to be driven on non state roads.
I township I live in permits ATV's on non State roads. Which means that the speed limits are usally at
25 to 45 mph.

I have heard of some places where they are and i have been to Northern Wisconsin where they let you. I have also seen dot approved hard surface tire kits. Unfortunately around here (Central Illinois) most of the trails we ride on aren't even legal. I have only heard 1 good reason why they shouldn't be. That reason is that people who cant ride motorcycles because they have to balance them will get on 4-wheels and think they dont have to do anything to ride it, this would kill someone probably.

hi, i live in the UK and there is a company that makes quads called 'RAM', and they make the quads like what my brother has which is made for the off-road but also the road legal versions which have indicaters, mirrors, road tires etc already on them with no extra fee, so surley if you bought one of them you would be allowed?
