shifter issues with esp on 2000 450es
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. This is my first post. I created this thread, but didn't bother to explain my problem. I just titled the post. So here's my issue.
I own a 2000 fourtrax 450 es. I love the thing, but in recent months, it has developed a problem where when hot, the electric shift malfunctions. I will be cruising along, and
notice that shifts won't occur. when I look at the display, it shows a -- instead of a gear position. At this point it appears to have defaulted to whatever gear was commanded
at the time of the failure. If I turn it off for awhile, it will work again until it gets hot. I took it to a Honda dealer. They said that they drove it for 45 minutes and where unable to
duplicate the issue. So at this point I am noy using my atv because I can't rely on it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, renob

Welcome renob. Also check for a simple loose terminal. Assuming all the wiring is good, next time it fails, watch to see if the speedo is registering weird. If it is, replace the speedometer sensor. If it isn't, replace the angle sensor. Both parts are under 75$ and are easily replaced on the engine externally. Between those two items about 95% of circumstances like yours are fixed.
