Torn.......need advise
#1
I have a Recon 250 that has served its purpose well but I longed for a quad with a bit more power, so a friend told me to get a Suzuki Z400.....and that ended up being WAY more quad than I need. It is just too torky(and real jerky at low speeds) for me, and (call me a baby, but...) I don't like the mud slapping me in the forehead due to the cutaway fenders......not to mention I ride on rough hills and find clutching to be a real chore.
Can someone recommed a quad that I can throw around easily and behaves similar to the Recon but with about twice the power........that won't throw mud in my face and doesn't need a clutch? Does any manufacture make a kind of Hybrid sport/utility? A bike that will fill the void between the Recon and the Z400?
thanks for any help.

2000 and newer Kodiak, very light, and fun to drive with the 4wd on the fly. I guess they do come in 2wd versions, but I prefer 4wd. This is another gap in Honda's line, IMO.

The problem is that alot of sport/utility quads don't really go much faster and are heavier. Most sport quads have less coverage over the wheels. You could try a 2 wheel drive Rancher, Wolverine 4x4, or Kodiak 2x4.

Can you fling the KFX700 around very much or is it going to be a heavy beast? Is the automatic tranny got the tork to do wheelies? How are the Kaws on service?
I have a freind that has a Polaris 400 scrambler and I liked it but the only problem is I have heard they are service hogs and I know for a fact the local polaris dealership is full of morons with bad attitudes as my daughter rides a 90 scrambler that I never have been able to get serviced properly(it has been nothing but problems so I will not consider one). What I do like about his scrambler is the it has enough power (especially after he did some mods), its automatic, and it pulls wheelies not problem. Do you think the KFX700 might be similar to the Scrambler in the way it rides?

The KFX has no problems in the power department. I got to ride one and it will wheelie with no problem even going at a fast pace. The only problem I had is there is a slight delay between the time you hit the throttle and it takes off. You would just get used to it though and get on the gas a little sooner when you saw an obstacle you wanted to wheelie over.
It handles very well. Not as well as a 400ex or even a Raptor. It handles better than a Kodiak though but I think that is largely due to the tires. Truth is a 2X4 Kodiak without racks is as light as the KFX700. Change the tires and it would be even lighter. It definitely won't have the power of the 700 though. That engine is impressive. If they would have hook that up to a manual transmission, it would dust a Raptor.
