New yamaha 4 stroke (400ex replacement?)

I'm sure a lot of you have seen the spy shots in the atv mag. of the supposed new 4 stroke yamaha. Well what do you think of the looks? I myself was not as impressed as the folks in the yamaha forum. Plus would you trade your 400ex in if it was a 660 and water cooled and lighter than a DS? I really like my honda and it does every thing I want it to do so I would have to say no! Pluss I paid $5'400 for my 400ex , I figure a 660 will be in the 7k range. More than I want to spend.

I personally don't like the looks of the plastic on the new yamaha. I hope it runs as well as they say it will and I think they will have to change the suspension to realy make it competitive.The Warrior and the Banshee suspension just won't cut it on a new quad that's supposed to compete with the new machines that are coming out. I'm with TopDawg my 400ex does everything I could ask for and I wouldn't trade it for a new one. I don't ride anywhere to open it up for any period of time.

For me, it's hard too tell if I like the looks of a quad till I see it in person. Example, when I saw pictures of the new DS. It looked cool because it was something different. But when I saw it in person, I couldn't stop barfing all over the place. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly.....(just my opinion)
Power and size......I will decide the first time I ride one. But if it's like the DS, no thanks.....too wide, long and top heavy for my tastes.
(once again, just my personal opinions. I don't think any machine is junk. Just not for me.)

I wish a company would come out with a fuel-injected 300cc 4-stroke, with aluminum frame, and long travel suspension. Weighting in at 300lbs.
That's my future quad.....
Power and size......I will decide the first time I ride one. But if it's like the DS, no thanks.....too wide, long and top heavy for my tastes.

I think it's great that new machines are coming out, but the new 600cc+ machines don't do much for me... I wouldn't mind having one as a second bike, but I like the size/lightness of the 250cc 2strokes / 400cc 4 strokes. I would much rather see more development concentrated there (Go Cannondale! Make Honda build something truely high performance! )
It's kinda like a CR250 vs a CR500 -- Which is better? Sure the 500 has loads of power, but which bike is a better all around bike? Or maybe a better comparison is the XR400 vs XR650..... For my style, the XR400 and CR250 are the ones I would choose of those options.....
400~500cc in a four stroke is a nice size, still fairly small, torquey, and lots of potential.... 300 just lacks the size to ever be very torquey no matter how hopped up.... Current technology allows 4 stroke engines to be brought up to just above 100 HP/Liter without too much trouble, which on a 400cc machine puts you at about 40 HP, a very nice level to be at for most riding conditions.....

Its about time Yamaha came out with a new sport quad. The Banshee's design is dated. Yamaha's sales have fallen off with the introduction of the 400ex & then the DS-650. If its a 400-440cc engine it won't be anything special. Look at Cannondales new quad it has fuel injection it will be better.
Look for the Yamaha to be big (660cc) & cost $7k.
What I am worried about is to get the latest & greatest quad is going to cost you 7000 whethers its a sport type or 4x4.
My question is how high will quad prices go before people say enough?

Yep, I hear ya...
In 1986 you could get a machine (TRX250R) that was quite similar to what is available today for around $2500. Now $5500 gets you a TRX400EX. Next year $7000 for the top of the line. Who know's how high they'll go. They just know that they've starved us for so long that we're willing to pay....
Actually, I think the govt and lawyers (and the MORONS that hire them) are probably largely to blame. The govt screws up everything they touch, heck same goes for the lawyers. (Note what quad prices did in the years 1987 and after)
