gravity feed 86 350 ? ?
#1
Im wondering if I would be able to make my 86 350 Honda gravity feed by making a gas tank for the front rack and hooking it to the carburetor. Would this work ? Then I would have no worries about fuel pumps.

Im not doing it cause im too cheap to get a pump its just that I want this quad to be really reliable ! I don't want to be worried out on the trail about the fuel pump going bad. I was thinking about having the gravity feed tank as a back up and to store extra gas (these things are pigs). I ride alone a lot and I don't really want to have to walk out of the woods because of a fuel pump. I wonder why Honda put a fuel pump on this model? They should have designed it with a gravity feed tank ! Oh well I still love my 86 350 lots of power for a 350 but it likes to drink a lot !

It's got a fuel pump because of the location of the tank, guess that's the way it was designed. You should get years and years out of a new pump. If you choose to hook up a gravity feed set up it should work, I would run it as a spare myself tho.

Oh yeah I knew it had a fuel pump because there is no way they could have made the tank under the seat gravity feed. I was thinking about hooking up the extra tank for backup in case the pump goes out or if I need extra fuel. When these atvs were new did they burn a lot of fuel ? ? ? Or do you know ?
Thanks for your help !

Well the plugs are black ( running rich). The engine is running fine like this (lots of power). My uncle had a 86 350 for a while and it burned a lot of fuel too but ran great. It could probably be normal, my 87 Big Bear wasnt very good on fuel either.
