300 EX Newbie needs info.
#1
Hey guys.
I recently got a 2000 300 EX (my first ATV).
I have mainly been doing trail riding, and that's probably all I will ever do.
I was interested in doing a few mods to it, and thought I should ask for some info from people who have some experience.
As I've browsed some older threads it appears I should definately go with a different exhaust.
I see the Curtis Sparks, and White Brothers brands mentioned alot. (Where are some good places online to check prices?)
I assume I should get a new air filter. What's a good one to go with?
I have also seen in some threads that there are some airbox mods I can perform? What are those mods, and how do I do them?
Are there any other basic mods besides these that I can do? I'm not really looking to get into anything to extreme.
One more question.
What can I use to clean my four wheeler after some muddy trail riding that won't damage it?
Thanks

Congrats on your first quad!! Starting with the pipe,Curtis Sparks is a great choice but a little pricey for the type of riding you are talking about, White Bros. e series slipon will work just fine and add low and mid power they are 218.00 + free shipping through Rocky Mountain AtV check out their website rockymountainatv.com they are hard to beat, using a aftermarket air filter, all are pretty much the same i have used UNI and never had a problem, K& N also are very good but also cost more if you use K&N use an outerwear for better protection, and as far as airbox lid mods you can run with no lid unless you plan on splashing through water, or cut 6 1" inch holes in it and there are vents you can but to put in the holes or just leave them, the one thing you must do is re- jet the carb to make all these mods work correctley, you can do this yourself or take to the dealer usually runs about 60.00 at least mine did, with these mods your quad will run better, faster and sound much better no matter what you do have fun and ride safe.

Thanks for the info.
I think that I'll go with the White Brothers pipe, and some type of air filter.
Not too sure about removing or cutting holes in the airbox.
I do tend to get into water, and mud.
Would I be better off leaving it the way it is, or would cutting the holes be ok?
I don't want to ruin anything.
What does re-jetting the carb mean? Sorry if that's a lame question. hehe

If you cut the holes they make small 1 inch vents that fit in them and no water will get in, your honda dealer will have them they cost about 10.00 and just follow the dirctions on how to install them and yes you will have to rejet the carb,if you do these mods because you will be increasing air flow and need to richin the gas mixture there are jets in carb that need to be removed and replaced to increase fuel,if you don't rejet there is a possibilty that you run lean and will fry the motor, your dealer can do this if you don't feel comfortable doing it. Remember none of this has to be done if you are happy riding just ride sometimes people get to power hungry and thats how a lot of people get hurt.

rockymountain atv has a nice selection of exhausts on their website. www.rockymountainatv.com
http://www.rockymountainatv.com/home.asp?sid=0002982653 is a good exhaust, it will make that 300 scream.

Thanks again for the info.
Now, what about cleaning?
What products do you recommend for cleaning it up after riding?
Right now I'm just using a hosepipe.

what we do after we go down to big rock,KY is we our honda presure washer and wash it off. In fact that is what i was doing 10 minutes ago. It works really good for mud and other junk, but watch out for the stickers you want on there it will take them clean off. Dont go too hard on the seat it might bunch up or rip holesin if your going too hard on it. Also you can go to pep boys and pick up a cleaning kit for cars and use that to clean it too. just make shore that you add a little bit of the soap to it and mud will come of like a charm.
