300ex or used 400ex?

I have found a cheap used 400ex. I am considering purchasing it but have a couple questions. The 400ex has no reverse but the 300ex does, and the 400ex has, obviously, more power. Is it worth giving up reverse for more power. My only worry is that I'm a trail rider and I ride some tight trails and am really worried about getting stuck. Is reverse that much of an importance?

Reverse is very nice to have, BUT think you'd appreciate having more power and much better suspenion over reverse. Depends on who you ride with i guess, but all of my friends had faster quads before i got the pred, and it got annoying. I still ride my 300 a lot though, it's a heck of a trail machine.

If you are going to be riding tight trails and you like the reverse of the 300EX you should get it..I use reverse all the times on tight trails..you should get the 300EX and if you want more power for it buy the 396 kit..it will give you like 3 times the torque and acceleration..and it will bring the top speed up to a 400EX with the right gearing..

ok power nerds,
imagine this, you are on a really wicked awesome trail around 6 feet wide. you come ripping off a straight away and you slide around a hairpin turn, suddenly there is a log laying in the middle of the trail you nail the brakes and slide over the bank into a tree. you hit the tree with the front of your bike (thank goodness for the dg bumper you just invested in) but now you have a prob. you cant back up you have to either 1 get off the bike and pull or 2 pick up the front end and worm it around untill you can blast back up the bank going fowards. now consider this the same thing happened with a 300EX you can simply put the bike into reverse and back up and over the bank you slid over. decisions decisions put or go 8 mph slower.

ok power nerds,
you blasting around wooded trails about 6 feet wide. you just came off a strait and just slid around a hairpin turn your having a blast with the extra excel. that the 400EX has over the 300EX then suddenly you spot a fallen tree laying in the trail you nail the brakes for all they are worth but you slide over the hill and smack a tree with the front end and that stops your sliding. now since you dont have reverse think of this you have 2 options option # 1 is that you try to pull the bike back up the hill. option # 2 is that you have to pick up the front end and worm it around 180 degrees then blast back up the hill. now imagine the same situation on a 300EX you put it into reverse and back up the hill or turn around and then blast up the hill. so do you really want 8 mph more speed and a lil more excel in exchange for pushing? or a lil slower bike but still peppy enough with the comforts of having reverse. think about it.
