I just got both of me 400EX's out of the shop. I had the IMS 440 kit put on, new race cam, K&N air filter, jetting work you name it I did it and oh boy WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

Of coarse the first thing my buddy asks is did I remove the REV LIMITER? Has anyone out there done this and isnt it potentially bad for the quad? ANY feedback would be helpful.

Thanks guys!

For any modified EX, an aftermarket rev limiter is a must. They let it rev out higher and advance the ignition curve. You can get them from White Bros., CT Racing, and I have heard a stock on from an XR250 dirt bike works too.

A rev limiter is not a must. I have a 400 with a Double Barrel, K&N, 165Main, 140pilot. I had a WB limiter but took it off after changing the sprockets a little. With the gear change I rarely ever hit 9000 rpm and I still can't keep the front end on the ground. With your 440 kit you should have no problems with a gear change. A 4-stroke should be short shifted anyway and that would make the WB limiter useless. The gears are 16/37 with 18" tires. Stock is 15/38. No new chain is needed as I increased the front and decreased to rear. Good luck!

The only time a higher rev limiter is good is 5th gear full throttle. If you want one, go to a honda dealer and order part # 30410-kce-671 and save money over a WB.

If you've hit the rev-limiter, then you need a performance rev-limiter. Kinda like race gas, if you dont ping, you dont need it... But if a new rev-limiter offers advanced timing, that is something to investigate... This is kinda like a question about a "boost botttle", after 2 years,, I still dont know if it really works!
