I bought my 1999 400ex on Monday I I finally took it out last night. After about on hour of riding I noticed it started making a slight ticking noise. After it cooled down the ticking noise went away. Is there anything I should be worried about or is this normal?

 

Sounds normal..on a car after you use it and let it sit it starts ticking too and then after it cools down it stops ticking..I dont know if it would be the same for a quad though

 

All air cooled motors make a little noise. The valves have to be adjusted every now and then, when they are out of spec the ticking gets louder.

 

Did it make the ticking sound while it was on or after u turned it off? If it made the noise while it was on it would most likely be ur valves needing adjustment. If it was off the sound is normal.

 

It was while it was on for about an hour

 

I thought it was when it was off..Sounds like your valves..I dont know what else it could be...Set your valves..

 

By the way how often should you adjust your valves

 

I have the instructions to adjust them but is it that hard?
