how much is a 83 250r worth?
#1
I seen an add for a 250r the guy says he had it bored to 305cc. havent see it yet, but know the old 250r's are fast, but dont know if the 83's were as fast as the 86 and 87's.also does anyone know if there are any conversion kits to go from 3 to 4 wheels? how much is the 83 250r worth in running condition?

i wouldnt pay over 1000 for it if it was in excellent shape. the 83 wasnt exactly the best handling machine in the world. for around 1500-2000 you can get a water cooled 85-86 in your area and have twice the handling potential and plenty of performance aftermarket.

600 is very cheap - I would atleast take a look at it and start it up. look to spend an extra 1000+ to get any of the water cooled R's. IMO, and my friend who is selling his 82 to buy a 85-86, is to hold out for a fresher water cooled R. either way you go, you'll have fun.

I had an 83 I sold in 98' for $1200, if you want a project quad and it's in decent shape, $600 is a great deal. Since my tank was dented(stock ones were steel) I put on an aftermarket desert tank @5gallons, purchased a maier 350x front fender(looked cleaner than 83 250r's) maier rear plastic and a DG pipe and silencer(I think it's the only one currently available) It had the 300 kit, 36mm Mikuni,K&N with no airbox....It was VERY FAST. I could race piped banshees at comp and give them fits. There used to be a conversion for these, but I don't think they've been availabe for a while. I only advise that if you decide to buy, be sure you have either reasonable experiance on a 3 wheeler or you take the time to learn the difference from a quad. I grew up on one and it was a hairy ride, I've seen those who had ridden quads/motorcycles and thought they could handle a trike only to end with disasterous results. I'm not making any assumptions about your ability, I love 3 wheelers(I still have my 83 atc70), I just want everyone to be safe and have a good time.
If you have any questions P.M. me.
