z400 better in everything...yes i do own a honda so i'm not biased....btw they r the same price

The Z is faster, has reverse and is liquid cooled.

If you want the fastest or best quad, check out the yfz450, or wait and see what honda will reveal in sept.

 

I have both. The two bikes have virtually identical mods. The Z is incrementally better than the EX in every way. The EX engine is bulletproof, but the Z engine screams!

 

I own a 2002 400ex, and have ridden a friends Z400. I would have to say that the Z is better. Basically the same stats, but Z has Reverse and thats good for my trail riding.

 

i raced a stock z with my 400 yesterday and it was even and i didnt even powershift and he did

 

I won both as well, and recon ranger is exactly right.

 

I agree with recon ranger and sandneck , everyone that I ride with has 400ex's and with me owning the KFX I have to say the Z /KFX's pro's over power the the 400ex's but the Z/KFX 's cons also over power the 400ex's . IMO if you roll or wreck a EX you can get back on and keep riding , if you roll or wreck a Z/KFX you better check it over before you start riding again. If I had to do it all over again I would still get the Z/KFX but the reliability
of the 400EX is untouchable comparing stock for stock...

 

Reliability and crash damage are not one in the same. THe Z400 is more advanced therefore it has more things that could potentially go wrong if you role or wreck it. Simply don't wreck. Funny, I don't hear anybody talking about the weak clutch on the 400EX. EX bulletproof? No.

 

Weak Clutch? I don't know about that.
