300EX Drag Racing
#1
Hi, I'm gonna drag race my 300ex in 2 weeks and I'm needing advices. Looks in my sig to see what I have on it. Don't worry, it's not really built up, but I'm gonna race in a blaster/300ex/warrior category and the quad here are never built. I was wondering what to do with it. Should I put my ATC350X Carb on it? The guy who sold me the quad told me that with that carb, he was neck-to-neck with his friend piped 400ex until the 400ex hit the fifth speed since the 300ex stock top speed was no more. Should I borrow some tires like some maxxis 4-snow. BTW, it be heavy soil drag racing , NOT Sand. Any advices would be appreciated

You're going to be hard pressed to hang with a 400EX with only a pipe, jet kit, and filter.
The 350X carb is slightly larger than a 300EX carb, but is still smaller than a 400EX carb - plus it lacks the accelerator pump that both the 300EX and 400EX carbs have. A better choice would be to pick up a cheap 400EX carb and bolt it on. We've done several of these and it makes for a nice improvement.
Get some good lightweight tires - on a 300EX, your shift points will be critical. I have a friend with a built 250X - it doesn't have half the torque my built 400EX does, but if he nails his shifts perfectly, he can give me a run. If you're not afraid to open up the engine, drop in a cam - top end power is important for drag racing & the 300EX engine will need to spin if you're looking to develop power.
Put your airbox lid back on, and cut a hole in it - after a lot of testing we've found that most 300EX and 400EX engines actually will develop more power with a correctly sized hole in the lid instead of completely removing it - believe it or not, top end power falls off.
Most importantly - practice, preferably with someone timing you. If you nail your shifts and use your power, you can beat a lot of people with a lot more bike than what you've got.
If you're running on hardpack, I've found that American Racers work well. Many people use Wedges with good luck.

Thanks ATC, I don'T know if I'm gonna drag myself (I'M only 110 pounds) or make my friend drag for me (180 pounds). The problem is that when I'm sand dragging , a stock 300ex can take me on the start (with a 200 lbs rider) but I can catch him up hardly after. So I don'T know what it'S going to be in the soil. ANyways, any other inputs would be appreciated

Try some different things and see how they work.
It's very difficult to tell thru the internet how your engine is developing power or if it's capable of launching in 2nd on the terrain you will be racing on.
Seat time & trial/error is what will help you improve most - go out and try some of the things you've been asking about. See what works and what doesn't, then come back with more specific details and questions, maybe then more will be able/willing to help.
