Anybody else get a questionaire from Honda?? The jist of it was whether there was any interest in large utility vehicles like the Yamaha Rhino. My take on this is that once you reach a certain size/weight, you might as well just drive a small truck or Jeep. Absolutely useless to me.

They neglected sport bike development for years while they gave us one utility after another, I wouldn't want to see the trend continue.

 

The "do gooders" keep yelling for roll cages and seat belts on atv's so enter the Rhino type atv's with seat belts and roll cages.
I can buy a heck of a nice CJ for less than the price of a Rhino. I used to have a 1959 ***** CJ5 that went every where I now drive my quad.
I've gotten those questionnaires before but not that one so far. Did you receive it in the mail or e-mail? Is it a fill in the dot- Would you buy a Rhino type atv? -O- not likely -O- less likely -O- more likely --fill in dot.
Something like that or do they allow you to write what you really think?

 

It was e-mail, and they had multiple choice AND a you could write in your comments (which was nice!).

 

I wish they would send me one. I've signed up for them to send info on the Honda site. I haven't gotten anything at all, ever.

 

I wish Honda would come out with a cross between a Pilot and a Rhino. 2 seater, Turbo PWC engine and a cargo area big enough for a full cooler and a spare tire. Sell it for $11,999 and that to me would be the greatest dune-mobile available.

 

I always wanted a Pilot for some reason. I think they would be great with a bigger engine in them and a wild set of tires.

 

These things aren't Pilots, they are clunkey utility monsters, not even in the same class as an ATV!

I have a friend who has a Pilot (in good condition), and it is tons of fun. But, the suspension is minimalist, and you take it all on you butt (you can't stand up and take the rough stuff with you legs like on a quad).

 

There are already cool dune machines out there. They are called "Dune Buggies". The Rhino is just a Mule with more aggresive tires. (Not literally the same machine.) They are all golf carts to me. Although they are using something similar in the military. One version is a one seater Yamaha that's kinda like a dune buggy.

 

I wasn't trying to compare the Pilot and the Rhino. They are obviously very different. The Rhino though is a step in the "sporty" direction when compared to the Mule and the Ranger.

I think Yamaha could build a buggy that was say a cross between a Pilot and a Drakart. They could put a 600/700 snowmobile triple or either of the R6/R1 engines. I'd pay $13,000 for something that would be that fast and would run everyday.

I would also be interested in a sportier version of the Rhino or a Pilot with a storage rack for exploring Arizona's countless miles of mountain/desert fireroads

 

I read a bit on that rig and I am thinking it will sell decently. I don't think many young people would buy it but I bet they do well with the older generation that hunts and goes out to the camp. I would love to have one for going to the camp and I bet it would plow the driveway like nothing else. Why would you ever by another quad for the farm if you have this thing? It has a small bed, tows a decent load, and you don't have to deal with getting on and off it. My neighbor loves to go in the woods but he is crippled up pretty bad from pollio when he was young and it is hard for him to shift and get on and off his Fourtrax.

Pretty hard to bang wheelies and jump but I bet it would be a hell of a ride hitting a bog wide open! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
