I really want a recon, but a Bayou is so much cheaper, and much easier to afford. I know Recon is the best, but what can I get from a Bayou?

 

nothing much more than what you can for a recon.
also honda will last you a lot longer than a bayou or what ever it is called.

I'm not interested in starting a pi$$ing contest on which is best.....I'll leave that up to the 12 year olds on this site. We own several atv's. One is a 220 Bayou. It's a great little machine and has been problem free. My other machines of different brands have been modified/vamped/etc. You know what?.......when I'm running around the farm on errands, chores, etc., I always jump on the bayou......it's a fun little bike to ride....my only complaint is the mild push-steer...other than that, I think it's bullet-proof. By the way, one of my other bikes is a Honda......no better, no worse.

 

How much cheaper is the bayou?

I believe the Bayou MSRP is $3299 & the Recon is $3499. Being on a budget is important. There is no comparison at only $200 difference.

You won't regret getting a Recon.

After you test ride them both you will know what I am talking about. We did before purchasing.

 

We just recently bought a 00 Bayou 220 for my wife. She absolutely loves it, we ended up picking it up for 3K even. I believe that they are a very very dependable quad, we looked at several used Bayou's before we bought, and they all seemed to still have alot of pep in them even after several years of use and some appeared to have been riden hard..

I think the Recon is a nice machine too, we just couldn't find a dealer in our area that had one in at the time. Either way you can't go wrong in my opinion.

Get the Recon its a way better machine than the the Bayou. You have to know Honda for its dependability.


2000 Recon
Great Quad, No Problems yet

 

The Bayou is a great quad for those looking for a pure utility quad who also need to limit the price of their purchase. It doesn't have the top-end speed or tighter suspension of the Recon, so don't buy it if you are looking more for speed or thrills. However unlike the Recon, the Bayou carries an OHC engine (as compared to the Recon's push-rod design) and conventional oil filtering system. The Recon engine makes use of push-rods to control valve movement and an internal, filter screen that requires an engine breakdown to replace.

Let me add that I own both a Bayou 220 and Honda TRX 300 (2WD).

In terms of value, you get more power per dollar by going with something in the 300-400cc class. With this in mind, I suggest you make the drive up I-45 and visit with the folks at The Mule Barn in Madisonville. (No, I don't know anyone who works there.) They will sell you a Bayou 300 at a drive-off price well below list. Now you're talking about a very nice quad that not only has more power than both the 220 and Recon, but also a slip-type differential that can be locked in or out. Leave it open for making easy turns or lock it so that both driving wheels have torque in those more "sticky" situations.

Better yet, just buy my '97 Bayou 220 (I live just down the road from you in Spring) and I'll go buy the Bayou 300. (Ha-Ha)
