If you take dirt bikes as an example, what wins on Sunday sells on Monday! Every kid wants to be an MX star, and dreams of having a 125. Out here (even in the open desert), the MX dirt bikes rule. You see thousands of them being ridden cross-country, in the dunes, trails, wherever (even when something like an XR would be a better choice). People chose them for their light weight and agile handling.
I like the TRX450R, because even though Honda is calling it a "RACE" bike, it has time proven 250R geometry. The 250R, more than any bike in our sports short history, has proven that (with a few mods) it can do anything, and it has until recently dominated everything it has done. You can race it (desert, MX, trail, etc.), you can recreational trail ride it, or dune, or whatever.
The old R is just getting an updated engine! It's a kids dream come true!!

that's a good point about how many of us actually race.. I don't race and never will but I do enjoy being one of the fastest up hills. How do you think the 450r will compare to the yfx and raptor when it comes to climbing hills?

I race Motocross regularly, and I'm kinda tired of tellin people that have only seen Dirtbike motocross on TV, that "I do what ricky carmichael does, except on quads." And then they give me a weird look because, i know they are thinking of utility quads hitting jumps, until i show them a picture of my quad, and their eyes get really big, because they jave just "never seen anything like that before." Racing quads and watching quads race, IMO, is MUCH more entertaining than watching the bikes race. Watching two quads go deep into a turn powersliding together and bumping for the lead is just something that cant be mimicked by the MX bikes. Yet, the MX supercross bikes are the ones that get all the attention on TV and Magazines. Im am 100% loyal to Yamaha. I will never buy a quad that doesnt have Yamaha on it. But i think honda has stepped up to finally factory-sponsor a rider on the pro level. If we had Yamaha, Honda, Susuki, and Kawasaki sponsored pro riders, could you just imagine the type of extreme brand loyalty/brand competition/popularity we would recieve? When you sart getting factory brands sponsoring riders, that gives the manufacturer an itch to keep pushjing R&D further and further to make a bike just step up from the others to give them the edge. Just look at the MX bikes, i know its been said, but they can be taken in stock form from the factory to the track and be competitive to a certain level. I am just ready for the QUAD REVOLUTION, i guess. Where we will be lead by the likes of Tim Farr, Doug Gust, and Kory Ellis into the spotlight of Motocross. We have a GREAT, spectator-friendly sport, and we cant make this sport into something spectacular without the finacial backing of big corporations.
Thank you
Thank you
