Today I was at a remote place in northern MN(that is no longer legal to ride in) watching a crazy guy climbing this steep hill on a new 400ex about 100' high, very steep, and it had lots of trees on the hill and at the bottom. The guy made it to the top, flipped over backards, the quad landed directly on the guys head(leaving some big facial cuts, even with a helmet on) and then the rolling began....rolling, rolling, rolling, gaining speed, then it started bouncing off of trees, I almost couldn't watch. That thing was bouncing off trees like a pinball! Sometimes flipping 15-20' feet off the ground! When it stopped, the damage(visible) was only a broken upper control arm, bent handle bars, and the usual scratches. We nursed it back to the truck in first gear, it started right up! That was the wildest crash i've ever seen!

we had the same experience with a 300ex.....man it bounced....got to the bottom of the hill, rolled it on its wheels and rode it home....it was insured, the insurance company put a new frame in it.....these bikes bounce good!

That would be a big reason for me not to get a new machine, since it is getting hard to do any more damage to mine than has already been done. I'd certainly like to get the new Yamaha or next Honda but I'd be nervous climbing even the familiar hills. Maybe thats why that guy decided to try and break his new 400EXs fall with his own body??

Well, that's what insurance is for... so you don't have to worry about totaling your bike. For $150 per year, it could be the best thing you'd ever buy for it.

My insurance company added it onto my monthly bill for my two trucks. It's only an extra $15.
