How much water? If it was alot, pull the plugs and turn the engine over a few times to pump out any water still in the motor, put the plugs back in. Change the filter and oil, run the motor a little, drain the oil and check it for water, if there's any sign of water change the oil again. Keep doing this until theres no water in it then change the filter and oil one more time to be safe.

Thanks very much, can't tell you enough how much I appreciate it. The engine does run, just sort of has a knocking sound. I drove it for a while and it seems to run fine, just has that knocking sound. Any other suggestions. I will change the oil and check it out though. Thanks again!!!

Hey Teoamaru
I am a ase auto mechanic
if you ran through enough water to suck it in and now it knocks I think its bad news
poss bent rod would be my guess I WOULD NOT drive it until you let a mechanic listen to it have it towed some where because if a rod is bent it wont be long till its broke then you need a whole engine but with out hearing it I couldnt tell you what it was exactly.
Does it knock at all rpm's? if so I would say there is a bent rod more than likley
Does it only knock when the engine has a load on it like going up hill and barley pressing the gas like spark knock? if so poss spark knock
car's engines are not like atv or other small engines
small engines you can get water in and then take the plugs out and not hurt any thing cause the engine really dont have enough power to bend or break something but they still will sometime
but a car engine makes enough power to completly destroy itself if something goes wrong
when you went through the water did the engine die (hydrolock) then eventually turn over if so poss bent rod
if it didnt die may be something else
I have seen this a lot on Camaro's and Firebirds (1993-current models) because the K&N and Moroso cold air kits sit right behind the bumper cover under the drivers side head light prolly no more than 5-6 inches from the ground

Doctor1, Thanks for the info I had a friend of mine who is pretty good with mechanics check out the noise. He races sprint cars I think he knows quite a bit. Anyway he said it doesn't sound like a bent rod, I think he said it almost sounds like a valve tap. Any thoughts???????? I plan on putting the car back to stock and taking it back to the dealer to see whats up. It sounds like a real fast tltltltltltltltltltltl (if you can make out what I mean by that) Sort of like the sound a bicycle wheel makes when a baseball card is put against the spokes and the wheel is spun. Anyway thanks for the help

Same thing happened to my friends Cavalier. He sucked enough lock up the motor though. We pulled all the plugs and then rolled the motor over and it was a 4 cylinder water canon!!!!!!! Freakin nuts how hard that water came out of the cylinders. Anyway.....we flushed the oil out that looked like chocolate milk and then put everything back together. It only ran for a couple of days after because of all the water in the bottom end. Yours sounds more like you bent a valve or some other piece of valve train like a rocker. A deep knock is the bottom end. A tick is either an exaust leak or valve train. Yours sounds like something in the top end so I think you are safe from putting in a new motor. Good luck!!!
