Default Highlifter spool locker

Has anyone here tried Highlifters "Spool style Locker"???

Looks great, $35 and permantly locks the front differential. In my mind it would work very well with a 2wd to 4wd selector system (which I already have - warn 424). It would likely make steering effort harder in 4wd on hardpack, but with my 4wd selector, I don't run on hardpack in 4wd.

Just from automotive experience it would still bind while turning in hightraction situations. yes you can disengage th front but the front tires will still be locked together.

It will be harder to steer in 2wd and 4wd. This is why they came out with the detroit gearless locker as it doesnt work like the spool locker.

Save your money, the Detroit Gearless is a much better set up and worth every dollar more. You already have the 424 adding the Detroit Gearless will make perfect. Each are the same amount of work to put in. Check out the Highlifter forum site there are several people who chose the HL Spool only to go back and replace it with the Detroit Gearless.

I love the 424. I guess I would have prefered the Rubicon with the factory 2x4 4x4 set up but it did not come with it. The good thing about the 424 is it is all mechanical not elec. and if some thing should brake it goes back to 4x4 so you can get home. I like it better from that angle. I am not a super good mechanic by any stretch, but it only took me a hour and 1/2 to install. Adding it to a Rubicon makes a already good machine a fun machine.
