Default 400ex mods?

If you don't want to spend the high dollars on a new carb, you can have the stocker bored out by Sparks for about $130. Pistons are fairly cheap, about $140 for the piston and gaskets. Hotcam is another $125. You can make the 400EX into a screamer for very little money.

Oh ya. Would a new head pipe make much difference? If so, which head pipe performs the best? Thanks!

Pred9000,
Yeah, Mountain High is like 8000th and Redwood, talk to Dewey. He knows about EX's. I would say the head pipe is fine until you get into big bore, big carb, ect. Its up to you, that could be a lower priority. I think powroll.com is the place to go . LRD performance is one of the best 400ex builders out there. Both those companies are in Oregon. Do a search in google or someplace like that.
Good Luck

sandneck, how does your z400 compare to your 440ex? Do you go to little sahara much? I am going up this weekend with a few people.

a stock z400 should not compare to a 440. i have a 406 with a 10.8:1 ross piston, stage 2 hotcam, full exhaust, etc. and in a drag the z's or kfx's don't have a chance.

You would be suprised. I have a LRD full system and a Pro Flow w/ a K&n, set up the jetting real nice, a few small carb tricks and that z can hold its own. I will say this, you better have a fast ex, or my 230# butt will pass you. Mine is faster, not by much, I have a buddy with a 440, megacycle cam, 11:1 JE, DMC full system, port/polish(professionally built), I can beat him on the z, and I carry 40 more pounds than him.

Excuse my cutting in but I can't picture where these guys are, is it the Polaris dealer there on the east side of the road?

Powroll.com is powrolls web address. They are in Oregon. They did the work on my stroker and I have absolutly no bad things to say about thier work. My quad pulls and carries the tires in 3rd at 16-38 further than it did stock and 15-38 gearing.
