Definitely keep your 250R because all you need to do is revalve the shocks. The 400EX is based on the 250R so it's not like a new quad is going to give you something you don't already have. Another thing to consider is that you may not get as much for your 250R as you would have a year or two ago just because of all the new sport quads on the market. Sure the 250R is lengendary, but it doesn't have the versitility of a Z400 and it won't be a fast and powerful as a new YZF 450 or TRX 450R. These two latest quads will probably suceed in putting the 14 year old 250R out to pasture. It will be interesting to watch how things shake out the next 6-8 months.

Wont be as fast or powerful as the YFZ or 450R........ LMAO. Tell that to my wife when she spanks your a$$ on her 330R. She says her bike with the triple rates and +2 arms on the front rides more plush than her Scrambler trail bike, That definitely says something.

Hell, there are many built 265cc Rs that will definately keep up or beat these new bikes, let's not even mention a 330R.

The thing about the prices of Rs going down has come up on this forum before and I haven't seen it.

The reason you are going to see a big push toward the racing the new fourstrokes is because of the money in pro-production classes.

Dude are you serious? Don't start talking smack
about people around here! I live right here in wichita falls and have been to every organized race, practice area, trails, backyard tracks and everywhere else around here and have never seen you or that bike ever! I and my group of buddies just happen to own 7 or 8 250r's that look a lot better than yours, sorry to burst your bubble! I'm 35 yrs old, lived here all my life and there are plenty of places to ride.......by the looks of you, you don't look like your from around here. Anytime..Anywhere...wait a minute how bout this Fri at the track on seymour hwy....maybe you don't know about it since it is inside the city limits but they have races every Fri nite....so since you started all the smack I think you need to bring it!

WIDEOPENCLUB, I mentioned my thoughts of trading my R for a 4 stroke and you come in here with guns blazin' saying that I'm talking smack? What gives? The only thing that I can think of is what I said on my picture page about not being able to find any real competition around here. Is this talking smack to you? If it is, then I will deffinately refrain from really laying it down. Besides, I'm just hoping for someone to ride with that can keep up a resonable pace. No I am not from around here, I'm Air Force. My last base was in Las Vegas, NV and the riding selections out there were endless- dunes, desert, mountains, snow, etc. I REALLY like this town, but the riding choices are sooo limited. PLEASE prove me wrong on this, I would love to find a good place to ride that is close.

I have seen a lot of R's since I made my picture page and no, my R is not the best looking one I have seen anymore. However, it is totally my opinion so why does it make you upset? You say that you have never seen me or my quad anywhere around, well, I don't think I was being subtle when I said that I hardly get the chance to ride anymore. Did you miss this? Also, I stated that I have slowed down alot, this is why I am considering trading my quad. So when I come out to the track on seymore hwy, don't be expecting a pro, but I'm not the slow guy either. The track you are talking about is a flat track, right? I have never ridden flattrack, but I'd love to try it. I had a bad spill on a MX track out in Vegas and since then I have slowed down some with the big jumps.

I think I have met a couple of the guys that you may ride with, one's name is Chad and he has an '89 R with blue full bore plastic and the other is the guy that he bought the R off of- don't remember his name but he works in HVAC. Do you know these guys? I will come out to the track this Friday night but please tell me what time. I will do whatever racing is offered out there and hopefully it will be a good time. I heard the MX track out there really sucks, what do you think?

As far as the whole smack thing goes, I will race you and I will try to win, but if you are going to be acting stupid about it I'd just rather not even come. Maybe I read your post wrong, but I got the impression that you are taking it a little too seriously. I just want to ride with some people that will pin it when they get the chance.

Let me know about the times, the type of racing, and how much it costs,
JP

P.S.- What did you mean by me not looking like I'm from around here? White guy with dark hair, this is unusual?

Hey I just got the impression from your picture page info that there was nobody around here that could hold a candle to you, maybe I did take you too seriously, if so my bad, but you sounded like you and your bike were the sh#@..........I love good competition too and the guys you mentioned do ride in our group, at least chad does, kieth doesn't have a bike anymore since he sold it to chad.......anyway just kind of rubbed me wrong talking about no riders around here..we're not pro riders either but we can hold our own with most people........As I said I'm 35 and the guys in my group all average around 30 so I've probably slowed down the most because, like you, took a nasty spill on an mx track with the worst part being my 5 year old daughter watching............with the closing of 2 tracks and a public area, your right, we are limited for riding areas around here so we do whats close and for me not so dangerous......you heard right, the mx track out there does suck but there is a new place just opened up called hilltop..its past burk take grandfield exit and your there.went out there to watch the first organized race and was disappionted with the turnout but its good its there because looked like a fun place.........4 different tracks to chose from.........anyway we're thinking of going out there to mess aroung this sunday if you want to join us, if you can keep up, just kiddin, no hard feelings, us texas people are just very proud people with short fuses I guess........about the flat track racing, We have been out there 3 or 4 times and its more of a TT track and its ok I guess....They do pay money through 3rd place but lately only 4 or 5 are showing up.......The first couple of weeks they started it 10 to 15 bikes were there and its 100% payback so (I'm not bragging ok)I did win 1st everytime I went out there so the 1st place money was good....maybe its the weather scaring everyone off but to me this is the perfect time of the year for riding........did you go to sahara for sandfest....we were there that weekend too and had a blast.....well I guess I've rambled long enough....if you want to join us some time my phone #'s in the book and my names in my profile

Bubba,
WTF does a 330R have to do with a stock, 250R? Since a stock 250R is pretty equal to a 400EX, speed and powerwise, how do you expect it to compete with a high po 450?

Default Thinkin' about trading my R for a 4 stroke

Well fellas, thanks alot for all of the advise. I wish I was in a position like some of you guys were I could just go out and buy something else but alas, I am not. I got the R all ready for some good competition with WIDEOPENCLUB sometime this weekend and I took it out for a spin here close to the house and for now, my itch is gone. I understand that the R's are awesome machines and I am extremely lucky to have one, I just get to salavating over what is on the menu every now and then. Plus, I don't know if I could ever really let mine go seeings how I built it and all.

The suspension though is the main thing that is still bothering me. I didn't mention what was really going on with it because I had already said so much. When building it, I did quite a few little things that I thought would better the layout and handling qualities. For the most part, everything went quite well, except for the swingarm. As I hinted at earlier I don't quite have money to burn, so instead of buying a new swingarm I modified the one I had. I really liked the design of the newest roll design swingarm so I tried to mimmick it. I shortend it about an inch and a half and I tilted the axle carrier upwards. The idea was to have a shorter swingarm that actually drops the rear end down, thus making it handle even better.

Well, it worked. It handles much better than an R without suspension or chassis mods. The problem is that now my front end sits higher than the rear which means all the weight is in the back unless you are breaking or in a hard turn. During breaking and hard turns, the weight bias is nearly even which will let you really carve a turn. But if you are not in these situations, there is no weight over the front and the smallest of bumps beat you to death. I know it is fixable, and I know what I need to do to fix it- I just got a little of track and started to think- "Well maybe I'll just get something else, cause I'm tired of fooling around with it." Well after taking it out a little yesterday and putting the turf tammers on, I remembered how much I like fooling with it and what a great machine it is.

Thanks again for the replies,
JP
