Default More top-end!!

My friend and i both have 400ex's and we are equal weight, when we are ridding at speed down the road and we both pin it he runs away from me. I need more top end

My mods:
t-4 slip on with 2" end cap
-k&n power kit
-2 2.5" holes in air lid
-18" tires
-16 countershaft

his mods:
e-series slip on with 12 disks
-20" razr tires
-stock gearing
-shaved fenders

would adding a sparks advance key and a hotcam stage 2 give me alot more top end?

i would not get a stage2 without a higher compression piston. your jetting will also affect your speed. you may need to go with a 36 rear sprocket along with the 16 countershaft to get more top speed. the cam will mainly give power at different rpm ranges than the stock cam. it may not affect top speed too much though. also, i would bet you need to tighten the throttle cable. put it so that there is about 1/4 inch of play in the throttle lever. it if has a lot of play, your carb will not be fully opening up. this will make a huge difference if it is not adjusted correctly.

A stock 400ex sprocket is 14 or 15, definately not 16 or 17. A 20 tooth front sprocket wont even fit, more so, it will take a mile to get up to speed
