400ex Muffler?
#1
Hey all, I just bought a 2003 honda 400ex and i was just wondering what is the best muffler and pipes to get for it. I think i want FMF because I have heard that they are good. And if you know any other mods that a beginner could do.

Congratualtions!
As far as pipes go there are many choices , and most are going to be good choices.
Where fo you plan to ride? Some places require you to be at certain sound levels, so you might have to get a pipe that is a quite model, many manufacturers now make quit inserts or a quiet model of their pipe.Do some searching on google. Go to RockyMoutainatv.com, look there. Look at the preferred vendors section on the front page of atvconnection.com. check out those guys, try to support the ones who support us!
First mods to make might depend on your type of riding. If you are riding in dry conditions, you might want to take the lid off the air box and rejet the carb (do a search on here for 400ex jetting, there will be many threads to help you).
You might want to change the font sprocket to a 14, from a 15, to increase low end power delivery. It will rob the top speed, but will wake up the bottom. htis works good in the hills and dunes.
I always have to change the bars right off the bat, I cant get comfortble on stock bars.
I highly recommend a foot peg extender, or it you can afford, some IMS/Roll Design pegs, or pro-peg nerf bars, thses are one of my favorite mods I have done to mine.
Alot of guys buy aftermarket skid plates, stockerrs are not too tough. I don't have any skids, I ride the dunes.
Good Luck

I would have to agree with swftballz400ex. I put a White Brothers E-Series on my 2003 400 Ex and I couldn't be happier with it. They are super easy to install also! 209$ sounds pretty cheap. I picked mine up at a dealer for around 250$. Good luck!!!

WB E Series is a nice muffler. I had one for a while, its loud. I had a few problems w/ mine breaking mounts, as did my friends, but I have seen this on many pipes and you just reweld it an go on riding.
Look at Pro Circuit, DMC, Yosh, I believe they all have quite models.

Team Factory Racing sells a package deal that comes with the Pro-circuit t4 slip on, k&n air filter, outerwear for the filter, cleaning kit for the filter, and a dynojet kit for $287. Adding all of these things at once will make a big difference, and its a pretty good price. I think they call it their pro-circuit power kit. Also the pro-circuit has allen head screws holding it together so you can take it apart to repack it later, the white brothers has rivets which have to be drilled out and replaced to repack the muffler. I recommend the procircuit kit.

the type of pipe u get will be affected by ur riding. the WB E-series is an awesome pipe, but it only adds bottom end power, not top end speed. and it is really loud, it's barely legal in claifornia (california has a 100 decible limit, the e-series is in the high 90's on a 300EX) if u want the best pipes around, get a sparks stage 6 full system. curtis sparks makes the best 4-strokes around.
