I bought an '03 rancher about a month ago and when I start it the engine is very quiet, but as soon as it warms up it starts making a light tapping noise. I have not had the chance to compare it with another rancher to see if this is common to the machine. I have a 250ex which does not make this noise. Does anyone else with a rancher notice this? Sounds like it needs a valve adjustment. You can do it yourself if you're mechanically inclined.

 

You are prob still in the first 20ish hours.
