Default 400ex Air cooled vs Z400 Liquid Cooled

The 2004 has been updated. There are several around here. The 2004 400EX will get up and walk away from a 1999 to 2003 400ex. That is why you can get a 2003 for around $4100.00 to $4500.00. The people that know this only want the 2004.

How can you say the 400ex which hasn't really been changed since it's debut can smoke a Z400?

Thanks,

You got it backwards...My KFX400 will beat a stock 400ex.

I don't know where you get your info but according to Honda there has not been any changes except a drop in price.

Darn, I guess Suzuki guys haven't heard but the 04s have a bigger carb;
99-03 = 35.5mm
04 = 38mm
I like both but for the money I couldn't resist the 400EX

i have both quads, i've never had an overheating problem with my honda, but it can't even come close to hanging with my Z. i did however have overheating problems with my Z, but it was mostly my fault because we raced alot of muddy races this year and did not keep radiator clean enough. i really doubt that a small carb. increase will have the ex walk away from a Z. by the way i race stock class in gncc so i have a real good idea of which quad is pulling away from the others and its not an ex, dont get me wrong i still like the ex and still race it locally against built quads and still run with them guys.

i have never hd ay overheating problems on my 40ex, not has anyone else that i talk to that owns a 400ex. air cooling is woefully outdated and it doesnt give the best cooling but it gets the job done, as for reverse, its not 100% necessary but it would come in handy. now the 400exis cheaper used and yo can get them in pretty nice shape for $3000 and there are more parts available for the EX but ifi was to buy another quad, the z400 would be one of the top 4 on my list

There is an issue with air cooled vs. liquid cooled bikes when you are talking about desert riding, duning, and huge hillclimbs. Most people who have ridden in these environments easily notice fade on air-cooled machine as the heat builds up. I would not want to have a quad without liquid cooling, but that's because I ride in AZ where the temp is 85+ degrees 3/4th of the year, amd i go to places like the AZ-Cinders where you attempt 500 ft hillclimbs. Same thing with the guys who are riding in Glamis, etc. Even in other areas that are more temperate like Sand Mt UT and St Anthony's I guarentee the preference is liquid cooling to get up those 400+ foot dunes. Now, if you are trail riding, you're not going to notice this as much. So for many people, the cooling issue is a big deal, thus I have a Z400.

I'm pretty new to this site, but it seems to me to be mostly a bunch of arguing brand loyal kids.

Seems like some of the other sites is where the educated folks hang out.
