No, I haven't even had a chance to look at it.

I'll try to find time sooner, but most likely I won't be able to work on it 'til Sat.

After trying a few things today, I ended up with the mixture screw at 2 1/2 turns out (was 3) and a 146 main jet (was 148). I did not change the needle (still both factory shims under the e-clip in the 2nd groove).

I *may* have had a slight exhaust leak where the factory J-pipe connects the HMF pipe. I'm not sure, but I did tighten up the clamp. (well OK, I broke the HMF clamp and had to go buy a new one )

It seems to be better, but I can't really test it here. I would have kept trying things but I was making a lot of noise, and in order the keep peace the apt. manager I stopped.

Hopefully, I'll get down to Hollister Hills tomorrow and test it out.

If I need to, I could probably change the needle while I am there.

Yes, changine the needle posistion is very simple and can be done almost anywhere with the right tools.

I did move the clip while I was there (down to the 3rd groove). It's still not running right. It is a little better. But still sputters and dies from to time.

I was running low on fuel and running out of daylight when I went home.

It's really frustrating me at this point.

Can you explain to me when it is sputtering and dieing? What happens? Do you just full throttle it and it dies? How about half throttle? What happens if you ease into it?

Well I'm having a tough time even really tracking what it does. As soon as i think it is a full-throttle problem, it will sputter and die at 3/4.

I think my next move will be down to a DJ 144 main.

I took out the quiet core, and I couldn't tell much of a difference, but it may be slightly better. I'm not sure if I will have time to work on it this week, but maybe I will play with it over the long Christmas weekend.

Maybe your plug is shot? Look at and see if it's fouled.

The plug looks good. I've been using it to check for rich or lean. I'll replace it anyway just because it is a good idea.

I think you are going the wrong way with your jet. You need a bigger jet than stock you are definitely flowing more are than stock and as such need more fuel. Going leaner may damage the engine. Make sure your seals are working properly around intake, carb, airbox, and muffler.

Typically with a K&N and a pipe you need at least two steps higher on your main jet and one more grove on your needle. The best way to reject anything is to start as rich as you can and work backwards (lowest groove and highest main jet). Starting lean can damage your engine.
