lt500 vs 450r

hey guys, i know noone has a 450r yet but all you here is honda vs yamaha. why does everone leave out the zilla. i heard someof them do over 80 stock. In a drag race i think the zilla should smoke both of them. i know they will easilly beat a rapter(ive seen it done many many times, my 400ex will beat a stock rapter, and i have never even got close to any zilla ive seen around her. do you guys think they would enen compare to the 450r and the yfz in drag races

thats what i was thinking. i just cant see a 450 four stroke ever putting out as mush power as a 500 two stroke. it just aint happening. the only thing the 450r will have on a zilla is weigt and handleing.

Hello speed racers, Honda and Yamaha built there quads (TRX450R & YFZ 450) to perform and be competitive on the Mx track and cross country racing versus a drag strip. Don't get me wrong, the TRX450R and the YFZ 450 will be and are very fast quads, but the powerplant was built to focus on low end torque and mid range hit, with plenty of power to tap in on the top end. Also a nice feature from the YFZ and I am sure also the 450r, the crank is very light which allows it to rev faster than any other 4 stroke on the market (duplicating the revs of a 2 stroke, not quite thou, but close). You can take almost any quad and make it go 100mph if you change the gearing and rear tire sizes, top speed should not be so much of a concern as intended. Its how quick can you get to top speed using the power and torque the motor dishes out. Also with respect to the power department (horsepower and torque), handling and reliability is as important, if not the most important.
2 Strokes rev very fast because they have less moving parts producing the power output. The lt500 has lots of top end, as well as most 2 strokes. They are meant to be ridden wide open, that's the only way 2 strokes run well. 2 strokes have no low end torque, that's just in the nature of the beast, yes you can port and polish to help improve the low and mid range, but in stock form, there is lots of room for improvement in that respect.
So to answer your question, in my opinion, in stock form, the lt500 would probably win a drag race, but would not stand a chance on the track or trail against the TRX450R or the YFZ450 (WITH EXPERIENCED RIDERS BEHIND THE BARS).
Have a good day, and HURRY UP HONDA, we have waited long enough, release that beast will ya.

well said timsh.... I think the 450 from honda will be a great drag racer. I mean, you're taking a bike that should have the same HP as a ds650 (after the hrc kit is installed) and it weighs approx. 125lbs less. The DS is a very fast bike so I'm assuming that the 450r will do very well drag racing even though it was meant mainly for mx.

pushinthelimit,
a close to stock LT500R might not run long enough to beat it consistantly, but if you have a restored LT500 it will run every race with that 450 and beat it every race. There will never be a 4 stroke to replace the quadzilla besides 4 strokes don't have anywhere near the fun and excitement of a 2 stroke

i agree the 450r will be one hell of a racer, but if you think about it, the crf450r competes with the 250 two strokes not 500 two stroke so how do you figure it could ever produce the power of a zilla. i dont think it will happen. does anyone know the stock hp of a zilla, i know the 450r was sapose to have 50+ hp, very very impresssive for a 450 four stroke
