Hi, my 300ex is currently having some problem to idle. I rejetted it for winter but It was colder today and it seems to be worse. It don't want to idle at all and want I give it some throtlle and then release it, there is a 6 inches flame coming out the exhaust with a big PAF!. What could it be? probably a jettage issue yet again......

idle skrew and airskrew are not the same. i am not positive on the 300ex, but on the 400ex the fuel skrew is on the very bottom of the carb. there is a bronze skrew that you adjust with a flat blade skrew driver. turn this out 3 turns or so. if you go more than 3, i suggest getting larger pilot jet. the idle skrew is for adjusting idle. this, on a 400ex, is a silver skrew.

Cals, I don't know for the 400EX carb but I think it's almost the same as the 300ex one. Check on This Scheme the screw I'm adjusting is at the bottom of the tube of #11 of the scheme. Is this idle or air? Where is the other screw?
Thanks

on the bottom of # 11 is the idle skrew. when you adjust this, do you notice your idle raising or dropping?? you should. the pic on Service honda is not the best pic. from what i can tell, #6 is the fuel skrew (what they call the skrew set). you should not have to take off the bottom of the carb to adjust it. it should be a bronze skrew sticking out just a little bit. on the 400ex they call this part the pilot skrew. i assume by turning this out will richen the bike at idle and turning it in will lean it out at idle. that is how it is on a 400ex anyways. i think you need to turn it out or get a larger slow jet (#33 in service honda's pic). what i want you to do first is turn in this skrew set (#6 on the pic) in and count how many turns it takes until it is seated. if i had to guess it would be around 2 or 2.5. just remember to count a full turn and now a half of a turn when skrewing it in. i would then back it out to 3.5 turns or so and see if that fixes the problem. let me know if you have any other questions.

you may have to take the carb off of the rubber boots to get to the skrew set (little bronze skrew) though, however you shouldn't have to take the bowl (bottom of the carb ) off though. look hard and you will probally be able to see it on the bottom of the carb. getting to it may be a different story while the carb is still on the bike though. sorry if this sounds confusing. good luck

Ok, I think I understand. It's pain in the as* that I need to remove the carb just for that screw. Better rejet the pilot while at it if I'm not saving time
