I think i need a silencer that doesnt exist
#1
ok i just rebuilt my 400ex; added a 440 kit, stage 2 cam and porting. i noticed a pretty big mid/top end power difference but I need more bottom end and i have been told that an aftermarket silencer would be my best bet, theres alot of silencers out there but i need one that has the following qualities:
-adds BOTTOM END power
-only 4 db's louder than stock
-doesnt stick out farther than the stock silencer
-well built
-costs $200 or less
-preferably adjustable for noise control
do they make such a silencer?? if so, PLEASE tell me

Wow are you making yourself nuts on this thing
The silencers you want to consider (notice I excluded the head pipe) are any of the disc models with a reverse megaphone design. this style will still extract some extra exhaust gasses but will also be more tuneable due to the ability to add or remove discs.
I know some of the guys with the WB e series will argue that their is fine etc but the reverse cone does make a difference and even more so when using the stk head pipe.
Check out supertrapp 4" (and all the clones), fmf mega max and others. I know there are many versions or relabled supertrapp designs but most of them eliminate the discs and some then offer it as a spark arrestor option you pay more for. It seems that the reason for this is that most of the "engine builders" pipes are of this design or even the same silencer with an open end cap that helps the top hp number but also loses bottim end torque.
Too bad the magazines dont do a bottom end torque and power curve shoot out. That would be much more helpfull for sure.

You could try their site, or see if any of the pipe shootouts use a sparks, lrd, ct, graydon or other similar silencer with the disc type spark arrestor.
I think I may remember something at GT Thunder also but not sure.
