I have a rancher and I love it. No problems here, it jumps good, has a nice suspension, and a good haul'. The only thing I would change are the brakes.

!!

I bought a 2000 Rancher 4x2 no ES and I love it! I find myself shifting up going up hills. Great power, no problems. I would definetely buy another one!!!

Just avoid the ES, i went with manual shift because i was a little leary of the electronic shift, sure glad i did, i hear about too many problems with the ES. Love mine.

As most everyone knows, this would not be my recommendation. But I have to say the only problems I have seen with the Rancher is the Electronic shifter. (and the questionable front differential) Go with the manual.

I would suggest that in your price range, you should look at the SP335. There is no comparison in ride quality. The new SP335 has a new composit belt cover and CVs in the rear. It also has a fully sealed fan. No water pump to go out, and fully hydrolic disk brakes front and back. If you do buy the Honda without test driving a SP335, don't ever get on on. You will be disappointed with the Honda. I don't mean dealer parking lot test drive either, drive it on the type of trails you intent to ride on.

Just my opinion.

Oh, you can pick up a new SP335 for around $5250

wrong answer. I own an sp500 and a rancher which obviously are two very different quads. My riding parter drives an sp335 and not only is the quad gutless but it's also a huge pig (overweight). Why do you want a 335 that weighs over 600 pounds, if your going that route may as well buy an sp500. My buddy also prefers the rancher way more than his own sp335, read around the polaris forum, you won't find many high marks for the 335, it's a dog!
