the 450r is not out yet, probably looking at mid February before the dealers have them and those will already be spoken for. It could be as late as April, May or June for those who are not on a waiting list. Hypothetically speaking, because the 450r is not out yet and the only thing we have to go by is reviews.
The YFZ450 is an awesome quad, however it is my opinion that it will be more tailored to the aggressive rider and those who MX. It is not touted as the best trail machine, nor does it have the best ergonomics. However, it has a wide powerband, revs high, good shocks and a low center of gravity, not to mention it is very fast.
The 450r will most likely be closer to previous models, 400ex and 250r. The handling and reliability will be superb and the powerband looks like it will provide more low end torque. It may or may not be as quick as the YFZ450, but I think it will be a better all around quad.
The components on the quad appear to be good and the reviews have indicated it will be an awesome quad as well.
Either way, both quads will be awesome!!!!!!!! There is a lot of bashing and speculation going back and forth between the Honda and Yamaha folks, you just need to determine what type of riding you plan to do, how each quad feels, how much you are willing to spend and the timeframe you are looking for.
Hope this helps.

hey Mootman...join the club.
ive got cash money to spend...and as i feared...the 450r is not available. i replied to a post (here) back when Honda revealed their cartoon. I thought it was a rush to market to steal Yamaha's thunder from the YFZ release and curb the Q4 sales. as stated above, you may not be able to get into one of these bad boyz until April/June.
i hope im wrong about my second prediction...which questions the reliabilty. what!? question Honda's reliabilty?! I know. I know. Honda has historically been the apidimy (<<<i think the spellings off) of the word "reliable". but, that was then and this is now. my fears were that they are in such a rush to play catch up (to suzuki, polaris and yamaha)... that they may release this quad...without the rigorous QC testing that they're well known for.
either way i'm sure even if that is the case it will be a top notch product that they will stand behind (unlike Yamaha). but 8k can burn a hell of a hole in your pocket if your waiting 5-6 months. the one good thing of this may be...that the first batch will be released in small numbers...and thoughs of us not fortunate enough to have gotten one, get to see how they compare to the competition. and if there is any first year model problems.
good luck dude
