Default Question on 300ex

When i try to start my quad, about 95% of the time it will never start. Cleaned the air filter, made sure it was dry. I got a new battery, and I will be very lucky after about 50 trys of trying to start it, it will sometimes start. I drained the gas last night and poured(hopefully) good gas in. I got a spark plug yesterday that I will put into today. Does anyone know any other reason it could be doing what its doing?

PS should i go to a hot spark plug for winter?

You may need to pull the carb and spray carb cleaner into every little passage to make sure you don't have a fuel flow problem. Just a little water or dirt will cause major problems. My son's was a bear to keep running when starting cold, I put a one size bigger pilot jet in along with my other mods, makes it start a lot better, sometimes I don't even need the choke if it isn't too cold out. Honda and other models tend to be jetted very lean from the factory to meet emission standards. Give that a try and let me know how it comes out. Also , when you say the air filter is clean and dry, I hope you meant no water on it, not put in dry, you need filter oil on it, or dirt gets in easier, and it may make it leaner and harder to start.

Default Question on 300ex

Well I had it rejetted for summer, but I found out im gonna need to rejet it for winter(its pretty bad in response right now). But i got it working. I put a new spark plug in, and it starts up basiclly first time every time now.(to bad my brand new batterys almost dead) Is there a reason why I would be losing compression? Because after i put the new spark plug in, it takes about 5 seconds to start it up.

There is a possibility your valves are out of adjustment, that can cause starting problems, also,if the motor has a lot of hard miles on it, you may want to do a compression check, low compression will make starting a little hard.
