Honda Ranchers

just read some of the posts on this forum. the ranchers are far, far, far, far, far, from junk. other brand loyal people bash them (and every other quad for that matter) but they are totally awesome and rock solid as the trx300.
the ES system is even bullet proof. i have had my ES pod submerged in mud (roll over) and never even a hiccup.

The RancherES is a nice bike. it is probably one of the best bikes mades with a solid rear axel. I would expect it to be extremely reliable. Just remember it is a mid size bike and don't expect it to perform like the 500-600 class.

It climbs, it muds, it's agile, it's fast....Really low center of gravity makes it a lot fun for the overall size. I don't have one complaint. With the ES you just point and click. 9 out 10 times it will make it up or though where ever you point it.

Ranchers are far from junk. I don't own a honda, I own a 2000 Suzuki LTF500. I ride with 2 guys that have ranchers and I am very impressed with what these machines can do. They can't follow me everywhere (I have aftermarket 27" tires and they are stock) but for a stock mid size machine, they are great. Take it from a non-honda rider, ranchers are worth their cost.

Motorbreath, did your friend say WHY Ranchers are "not that good an ATV?"
Did you ask him what aspects of the Rancher models he considered deficient?
Did he tell you how he knew Ranchers were "not that good?" Personal experience? Observation? Research, test and evaluation?
Apparently your friend's assessment appears less than convincing, since you ask for alternative opinions. Good.
From around 100 miles total of trail riding with others mounted on Ranchers, those machines performed excellently, as far as I could tell. I detected no flaws; thus, I wonder what your friend knows and I don't.

The only problems I've heard about the ranchers are on this post, dealing with whether or not the new differential works as advertised.
Personally, I think it's a nice quad, but I've only test rode them.
As far as being the "best mid-size quad"? It depends on what you're looking for.
I chose the wolverine, it seems like a more sporty ride than the rancher and it fits me better (the rancher felt smaller to me, but I'm 6'3" 220lbs)
Anyway, I don't think you would have any regrets going with the rancher.
