Default 400ex heavy duty timing chain?

Has anyone heard about using the 450r dirt bike timing chain for a heavy duty 400ex timing chain?

Yep, costs about $25 vs buying it from an aftermarket source like Sparks that will charge you $100 for the exact same chain.

Heavy duty implies that it lasts longer....

Kidding aside, the CRF chain has thicker plates, which makes it stronger, which in turn, makes it last longer before requiring replacement.

Does it matter what model year CRF450R timing chain you use? Is it really that close of a fit where reliability or anything isnt sacrificed? Is it better just to use an aftermarket 400ex timing chain?

it wouldn't be better to get an aftermarket 400ex one because they much more expensive. you will pay 1/3 of the price of an aftermarket 400ex one. if you go to www.exriders.com and click on message boards then click on the frequent asked question forum you can look in there and find the post about this timing chain.
