bluebus, i wish i could buy your 250r now. However, the financial situation isn't currently able to support the purchase, just a poor college kid. I'm just getting into mx, and i'm going to run my lt250 this summer. But, i hope to be able to upgrade to an R next year.

88-89 had a -2 inch alluminum swing arm compared to the 86-87 steel, the 88-89 motor has more hp stock because of a longer rod and different port hights and has more potentcil for modding unless you buy a new big bore cilinder. the frame is also upgraded and better than the 86-87.86-87 blue 250rs were rare and had to be special orderd.

If you read here it says -1" swingarm for 86 and 87 250r's are equal to 88-89. Now I would think that Laegers and Nac's Racing would know what they are talking about. Lonestar also told me the same thing when I ordered my swingarm. So 86-87 swingarms are 1" longer not 2". Don't mean to sound like a smartass just want to clear it up. I haven't found any info saying there is a 2" difference.

they moved the motor back 1 inch in 88-89 to center balance the bike beter so -1 inch would equl the same center balance as the 88-89, but actully the 88-89 swing arm is 2-inches shorter than the 86-87 sorry talk to gary denton or wayne hinson.

I didn't know about the engine being moved back in 88-89. I guess all I really was getting at was that if you put a -1" swingarm on an 86-87 your rear wheels would be in the same place as the 88-89. As far as the a-arms the aftermarket companies tell you to put the +2+1 a arms on the 86-87 models to simulate the 88-89. If that's true then the 88-89 have to be 1" forward. Here, read on the Roll Design a-arms: http://www.260111.s5.com/rolldesign.htm

And as far as the color of the plastic goes this is the same picture I keep finding of a stock 86. http://www.atving.com/editor/feature...ory/86250r.htm

LMAO ALL TRX's are orignaly red. You can buy any color plastic for them, but stock its red. 86 had a slightly diffrent frame. there was more to it and it was more sterdy. 87-89 had a bridged intake. All R's have a CDI limiter of 9300 RPM. But sence the R's electrical system is a resisitor type it will not get that far unless you buy an aftermarket cdi. (ie. LRD ultimate rev) 86-87 had a diffrent tranny and also diffrent sprokets. The top gears were slighly taller. But not noticable. The port maping was diffrent between each year. The 86-87's swing arm was steel and 2 inches longer. the a-arms also went forward a little more than 88-89. If you dont really know much about the R cylinder you wouldnt be able to notice the diffrent proting. Thats all the most MAJOR changes between years, but as for witch year is the best.... There all good IMO. There isnt really a hudge diffrence between them so I think you would be pleased with any year.

If you need more changes between the years Ill tell you them. But there real small (I.e jetting, spark plug, stuff about the sleeve ect.

LMAO...... Sorry... they weren't "all" red. I have an original 1986, bought from the orignal owner with the original factory plastics. It has white fenders with Red tank, seat & hood. So the the "all red" thing isn't correct.
