I am going to have the HRC kit installed. It is supposed to add 13-15% HP. I still think an aftermarket exhaust/header may be better than the modified spark arrestor that is part of the HRC kit. I am going to wait a few months on the aftermarket pipe though, I want to see what is out there.

Hope this helps.

Hey jasontrx450r, what type of riding do you plan to do with the 450r? Are you planning to race it?

Mostly trail riding...at some point i am planning on modify it to race..i know that the HRC kit includes an air box lid with a hole in it which would not be good for trail riding...but i was wondering even though the HRC kit does include different jetting if i could keep the stock air box lid with the rest of the HRC kit

SporTrAx- That is what I've heard. May not be right though. Hard to say without a dyno. I'm not sure what the stock jet is, but the HRC jet is a 185. The airbox is opened and the spark arrestor is opened up a bit. I wouldn't think 13% would be all that unreasonable though.

In the dirtwheels article, the stock 450R was 37HP and 40HP with open airbox, 190 jet and WBros pipe. This is roughly 8% if my numbers are correct. That was without the HRC cam though. I had heard the HRC kit would add 13% to the stock 37HP. (41.81)

Taking a guess here, but I would think the Aftermarket pipe on the HRC system (cam, airbox, needle) would be better than the HRC spark arrestor. I would think at this point the jet would be anywhere from 190 to 200 though. I really wish someone would dyno the 450R with the HRC kit installed and then with an aftermarket pipe. I think the end results will be 1-2 HP lower than a YFZ with GYTR slip-on, jetted etc. The YFZ in that config is 44 HP, I would be happy with 42 HP though.

jasontrx450r- One would think it would run rich with the HRC jet and airbox lid on. It would need more air.

I would say ride it stock for a while first and then decide if u want mod it or not. If, or more likely when u decide to mod it the aftermarket companies will probably have cam kits and full exaust systems that will perform better than the HRC kit. Just my 2 cents.

Warranty is something you may want to consider as well. The HRC kit installed by the dealer will not void the warranty from what I have been told. If you install it yourself, it will. I would definitely check with the dealer though.
