Whats the world coming to !!!

NewYork State just passed a bill that allows towns to ban jetskis. Next it will probably be offroad vehicles. Why do they have a say to what we like to do in are free time. If they pass a bill then there is probably goverment/politics people flying into or to another part of NewYork by plane. One plane makes alot more polution that any jetski ever will.

The gripe is the 2 stroke engine. Its an engine that can't be beat for torque, however, its high on pollutants and noise. I've been to yellowstone snowmobiling and that area will be missed. The MANUFACTURES of snowmobiles have been warned years ago to produce a cleaner engine like the 4 stroke. Honda is the only manufacture that has aimed at doing this with all their products. I could see honda stepping up real soon with a 4 stroke snowmoble to protect our ridding privelages. Its one of the reasons I stick with Honda.

Well ill tell ya what.Out here in Connecticut theres not one legal place to ride and it really bites.I swear I have my eyes peeled open more for D.E.P then I do for trees. And when they chase ya they will stop to no end.A buddy of mine is suing them because they chased him from the woods onto a public road and he crashed on the road ending up in a coma for a few weeks. What the heck is wrong with people now of days where you cant even take a quad on a nice trail ride or ride a waverunner in a lake.I say NUKE EM ALL !!!!!!!!

While the 2 strokes put put so much noise and polution (Dealer told me that 25% of 2 stroke exhaust is oil...or was it gas), they are still the greatest engines of all time. I would take a 2 stroke anyday because I love torque they can put out. I've riden the 400EX, 300EX, and the DS650. All four strokes, but none of which can even compare to the 250R and Banshee. So , what I think should be done is to find ways to make 2 strokes cleaner burning...yes, it sounds ridiculous, but only because you don't believe it can be done. I'm sure it can be done and I think it should be done. Perhaps they can find some kind of new oil to burn in the 2 strokes that will make them put off less polution...who knows...but instead of producing these huge 650CC (Bombardier) and 660CC (Raptor) 4 stroke engines, more research in the 2 stroke should be done. Wouldn't it be something if the 250R came back out on the shevles again? Think of the sales it would make. I'd buy one in an instant. Well, enough of my blabbering...just some of my input on what should be done to make quads legal in places.

Wombat,
You have the right idea and it is happening. The new regs are forcing the manufacturers to hit the drawing boards again. Those 2 strokes they said can't be improved, are now being improved. 2-stroke outboard engines are now virtually smoke free and have reduced emissions by orders of magnitude. New designs are coming out daily. Will they be as good as the old 2-strokes - damn right - given time. Will we see new 2-stroke designs in the ATVs - certainly. Will they be as good as the 4-strokes (wrt emissions) - probably not. Will 2-stroke ATVs be produced 10 years from now - who knows. Rest assured the engine designers are working on new designs!!
