Default Honda trx250x questions.

i have a oppentuneity to get a very nice 250x, the motor was just redone 3 mounths ago, this includes high compression piston, new valves, seal, and gaskets. the bearing are all new, as well as the shocks. the plastics are in decent shape about 1 or 2 1" cracks. he is asking 1200 bucks, is this reasonable? are they fast. i know they will take a 300ex. the bike also has holeshots on the rear, the year is a 1988. any know problems with them, or are they a honda and gods gift on earth?

please let me know what you think. i will get some pics of it to let you guys see.

the bike is stock except for the tires and motor work. but being the shocks are brand new, as well as the bearings i think i am gettin a ok deal.

I dont know if they will take a 300ex because the 250x evolved into the 300ex. All the same parts pretty much cross over on either bike. I have a 1991 trx250x and it is great all around quad. It will run right with a yamaha warrior in the flats but a warrior has a little more hill climbing power. I put a big gun exhaust on mine gave it a good power increase. It is a very reliable quad. Mine is a 1991 never done anything to it and it still starts first kick every time. If its in good shape 1200 sounds like a good deal. I see them on ebay for up to 2000 dollars.

I dont know what the top speed is Ive never had any way to test that. It will pop wheelies fairly easily. I can get my front end up much easier then my brother in law can on his warrior. I have a much faster bike I use when I want to go fast but for a good trail or all around bike the 250x is great

Default Honda trx250x questions.

When the 300ex came out (and I bought the 2nd one in the state of CT) dirt wheels mag did a test and the 300ex walked the 250x in a drag, BUT, the 300ex used softer valve springs and 400rpm less in the rev limitier for a better torque response, as a result, given that the 2 machines are almost exactly identical in weight and geared the same, the 250x WILL get about 1-2mph in 5th over a 300ex on level ground. stock vs stock.

My 250X was piped and jetted and would run 5th up most small hills, but I do feel the torque of the 300ex when I do my climbs and stalls (my 300ex is bone stock)

1200 is an ok price IF:

the rear axle housing was paid attn to. once they get water in, they die quickly. IT costs about $100 in parts plus time.

the frame is straight and all control arm/swingarm bearings are ok

the ball joints are perfect - bad ball joints mean a $200 control arm.

the motor has to run well and the tranny shift well with no sticking indicating a bent fork. honda gear boxes 'snick' into gear, anything else and take a pass.

tires and wheels have to match the price. you didnt say year, but I think the 250x died in 93 no? thats 11 years, to still command 35% of price they have to be straight with decent tread.

btw - 87/88 250X's take a pass on. bearing problems in the engine and tranny.

this thing is a 1988 250x. it was compleatly rebuilt back to factory specs. the only origional part is the plastics(decent).

the tires are holeshots all around(new) the motor had rad bearing installed in the cam, and the rest of the bike. all of the shocks, bushing, and bearings are brand new. shocks are factory brand new ones. the machine is tight overall. the motor is rebuilt, stock bore, new valves, lifters, seals, springs, and the clutch is new also. the carrier bearing are replaced, and the case bearings where they mount are reinforced, just like you would do to a zilla motor.

it is also missing the grab bar, the tires are infact turf tamers, and the motor is toatly redone, the only thing it has "bad" is two pin holes in the seat, and stickers are misisng.

I think it's a good deal. I paid 2,000 for a 1992 that was in great shape. The one thing to check on the bike would be the suspension, make sure the shocks aren't blown. Even if they are, it's not much to replace. That motor will last forever. The real question for you will have to be if it's the right size bike for you. My wife rides the 250x we have, I like to putt around on it, it's a blast, but when I jump it I ALWAYS bottom out, even if I'm only 2' off the ground (i'm 6-1 190lbs). I took the bike out this weekend in the snow, believe it or not, me and my brother and a friend were racing around a snow covered feild. I on the 250x with stock tires, my brother on a modified 250r with holeshots, and my bud on a yfz450 with holeshots. i killed them, bad!. We couldn't stop laughing, that little sucker moves in the snow man. anyways, it's a nice bike, but if your to big you'll need something else.
