Foreman Engine question

Default Foreman Engine question


I need infos on Torque settings for these bolts, as they are N/A in the WorkShop manual (Haynes Chapter 2)..
That's strange since they describe how to Overhaul the engine and don't say the torque settings..
Maybe I'm missing something ?

Need the Torque settings for Foreman 450 ES 1998 :

- Valve Cover bolts
- Cylinder Head bolts
- Cam chain tensioner (tensioner slipper/mainshaft bearing retainer bolts)
- Cylinder base bolts
- Front crankcase cover bolts
- Oil pump To-engine bolts
- Gearshift plate bolt
- Crankcase bolts

Default Foreman Engine question

cylinder head bolts=use oil on threads and washers, in two to three steps,29 lb ft
valve cover bolts= snug, no value in honda service manual either.
Cam chain tensioner mounting bolt=9 lb ft
Cylinder base bolts=if the same dia and pitch as head bolts, use same value29 lb ft(10mm)
Front crankcase cover bolts=tighten the 13 bolts, in a criscross pattern, in two or three steps, no value given in honda service manual.
Oil pump To-engine bolts=doesnt say either
Gearshift plate bolt=9 lb ft ,and says to use thread locker
Crankcase bolts=tighten the rear bolts first, in two to three steps, then tighten the front bolts, no values given.
on the bolts that dont have values given, I'd use the generic chart for bolt diameters. Should be a generic bolt chart at the front of your manual.If not, let me know the diameter and ill let you know what it says in the honda manual.

Great thank you for your help !!! . ..

I've found a Torque Table on a website, but I don't understand how it's working ...

Example :
TORQUE TABLE : ft-lbs
Size Aluminium
1/4-20 6 ft-lbs

What should I understand, 1/4 is the Hex diameter !? .. And 20 is what !? ..

Damn, I always thought that those Torque settings were magic numbers given by Honda ..

Default Foreman Engine question

the 1/4 is for the major diameter of the threads, and the 20 stands for 20 threads per inch, which is the pitch.
Youll be working with metric threads, which are labled a little differently...for instance 6 x 1.25, the 6mm is the major(top of threads on a bolt, bottom of threads on a nut) diameter and the 1.25 mm is the pitch, metric doesnt label in threads per unit. Pitch is the amount the thread advances in one turn(360 degrees).
