The one I test demo-ed I liked a lot. The manual shifting is so smooth from gear to gear you can hardly notice it, Very nice, Unlike the ES, No rocking the unit(somtimes) to get it to shift when standing still.
The only thing the dealer told me not to do was shift between D/N+ R while the machine is moving. This I was told could cause hyper-hydraulic-lock. And a full replacement of the trans would be necessary. But I found it nearly impossible to do because of the electronic safeties.

The fender clearance for the 28" Outlaws is the only problem so far, for me Andy. Highlifter is working on what to do about the metal bracket that supports the front mud flap. The rear needs only a little flare trim.
I guess 94D was not happy with his purchase. As you obviously asked for those who own one to comment. He will not have any trouble finding a buyer.
I could not be more satisfied with my purchase or the dealer I have. The dealer called me Wednesday of last week to tell me Honda wanted them to check for the presence of a weld or the absence of it on one of the a-arms. Mine was present, they stamped the rear axle to show it was inspected and faxed the paperwork back to Honda. It is not a panacea for all ATV ills, but it is a definite step up for me from my 300 (which I still have).

Since Andy asked for comments from Rubicon owners, I assume you now own one, 94DGblaster. When you bought your Rubicon, were you unaware the Rubicon had a limited-slip front differential, full-time four-wheel drive, drum brakes, and a solid rear axle?
If the salesman, dealership, or manufacturer misled you, you may be entitled to relief.

Doc , I was going to E-mail you about this conversation I had today with the friend of mine who works at the Honda plant here. I hope I am not saying to much about this but It doesn't seem like it would matter.
He said that there were a total of 13 welders fired or forced to quit at the plant last week due to poor performance by them. I assumed it was due to not being able to produce the type of work standards Honda requires. My friend is a 18 year experienced Welder and I have heard from others that he has gained a reputation as one of the best welders at the plant. He now also instructs new employees.
This certainly doesn't say a whole lot for our Domestic work force, esspecially here locally. So far every 4x4 model they have produced has been recalled. I hope they get it right soon ,before Honda gets tired of it and takes their plant elsewhere.
By the way Doc; Your Ruby looks awesome with those 28s on it!!!!!!

Drum brakes are awesome. I've had a '93 300 4x4 since it was brand new, and I haven't had to replace the brake shoes yet. Also, it brakes 10x better than the Wolverine I rode today (which has disk brakes), and you can go through any mud hole or creek bed and the 300's drum brakes perform just as well as when they're dry, where as the brakes were pretty much non existent on the Wolverine after going through a mud hole.
I don't see why so many people complain about drum brakes when they obviously work great in all conditions and last forever (on Hondas anyways). Obviously you pro-disk-brake people simply haven't ridden a quad with good drums on it. I'd almost say the 300 4x4 brakes just as well, if not better than my 400ex (although the four-wheel braking action probably has something to do with that).
The only reason I think a quad would need disk brakes is to save weight, like on the sport models. Any 4x4 should have good sealed drum brakes, they're the only way to fly.
