Default Is the 250ex really that bad?

Thanks for all the comments. Since I started this topic I thought I better chime in here. My latest acquisition is a KDX200, so I haven't made the leap to a quad yet. I still plan to get a 4-wheeler, and almost certainly will get a Honda, either the 250 or 300ex. But for now it's 2-stroke and 2 wheels. I do have to agree with most of you who stated that the 250ex is plenty capable for the type of riding that I do- southeastern tightwoods. My other bike is a 4-stroke 650 and while the power is there, I never can use it all!

Best trail bike ever made and even more so, the 96+ version. After being on the kdx though I would think you will want more sport in your next quad over the 250ex.

I have to give you credit for the above and wannabe1 might very well enjoy the 400ex better after the KDX.

At your weight (103lb) the 400ex would be very fast indeed.

I just picked up my new 400EX this past Saturday. Went to El Mirage on Sunday to try it out . . . very nice! Whaddya know, I rode all day and my back didn't get sore. So nice having that extra power for hill climbing and I did miss a clutch on the 250. Got the 250 all cleaned up and waiting for the ad to come out in a few days to sell it. I love my 400! Just need nerf bars and a pipe and I'm all set.

u know what...all of thoes quads are slow...I beat the 400EX on my 3 wheeler....and its from 1985!...thats gotta tell you somthing...if you want a good quad..Id buy the new trx450.....or maby the 400EX...I like the 450 because it comes with a KICK STARTER..and not that wussy electric start...I'm telling ya..if ya cant start it...dont ride it..its got high compression for a reason......my 3 wheeler has high comression..and the comp release cable doesnt help...I pray before starting it...because the back fire can break your leg if ya do it wrong...

My husband really likes the trx450 and also the YFZ450, but not the $7,100+ price tag. My 400ex has plenty of get up and go for me. I'm not real concerned about speed, I'm more interested in the suspension, handling and power for climbing hills. My husband raced a Banshee the other day with his Z400 and stayed side by side with it and then pulled ahead at the end. That thing is pretty fast. He says it's still fast enough to hurt himself on so he doesn't need anything crazy fast . . . after a weekend of riding, he needs to be able to get up and go to work on Mondays! Both of us do. Gotta pay that pesky mortgage every month you know.

well..u know...my three wheeler was only made 1985-1986...maby 87...so I know its high demand....and it has more power then the 400ex..so yea..I would donate it...theres always quads to ride...but the 3 wheelers are no more.....and getting offered $2,000 for it..when only paying $500 for it...must say somthing
